It fits a Windows-heavy small business that wants antivirus, policy and optional patch automation—but the Mac feature gap, lack of Linux/mobile endpoints and limited EDR depth matter.
Best when one generalist needs a clear console, layered prevention and optional Windows patch automation. Pilot it before a mixed-Mac rollout.

Independent lab results: strong Windows protection, scoped correctly
AV-TEST’s April 2026 business-Windows record awarded Ultimate Business Security 26.1 6/6 for protection, 6/6 for performance and 6/6 for usability. In February, version 25.11 scored 6/5.5/6. That supports strong Windows endpoint prevention, but it does not measure the Mac agent, Business Hub workflow, support quality or Patch Management value.

Avast received the July 2026 Approved Business Product award. That award applies to the exact Windows configuration and report criteria; it does not certify Mac feature parity, your applications or the operational quality of the Hub. A 6 in AV-TEST usability and zero common-business false alarms in AV-Comparatives are reassuring, but a representative pilot is still mandatory.

On July 14, Avast’s US store displayed first-year per-device prices of $31.37 for Essential, $39.85 for Premium and $48.33 for Ultimate, before tax. It also displayed higher comparison/renewal figures of $39.21, $49.81 and $60.41 respectively. Device count, term, location, tax and promotions can change checkout, so treat this as a dated price check rather than a guaranteed quote.

The official page offers a 30-day trial without payment and describes a trial covering up to 100 devices. Don't point a trial policy at production on day one. Use a representative pilot group with Windows versions, Macs, servers, VPN clients, finance software, in-house tools and remote users.
Protection layers and what they solve
File, Web and Behavior shields
Scan files and web traffic and watch process behavior for known and unknown threats. This is the prevention foundation reflected most directly in current Windows lab results.
Ransomware and data protection
Protected folders, behavior monitoring and firewall controls aim to stop unauthorized encryption and data access. Recovery still needs tested offline or immutable backups.
Mail Shield and phishing protection
Scans supported mail traffic/content and blocks malicious destinations. It complements, but doesn't replace, Microsoft 365/Google Workspace mail security and user reporting.
Cloud Sandbox
Runs untrusted Windows applications in an isolated environment. It's useful for uncertain files but not a substitute for a formal malware-analysis lab.
Web Control and USB Protection
Premium adds category/domain restrictions and removable-storage controls. Avast marks these Windows-only in the current comparison.
Patch Management
Ultimate automates supported Windows and third-party application patches from the Hub. Mac patching isn't included.
The product is endpoint prevention plus management, not a complete security architecture. Identity controls, MFA, email security, secure configuration, backups, vulnerability remediation, network logging and incident response remain separate responsibilities.
Avast Business Hub: approachable central control
The cloud Business Hub is the operational reason to buy the business line instead of installing a consumer antivirus repeatedly. It centralizes subscriptions, devices, policies, detections, alerts and reports in a browser. Avast also describes network discovery, remote-access/support tools and add-on services in the Hub.
Essential and Premium can be installed on endpoints without online management, but that choice removes the visibility and policy consistency most businesses need. Ultimate requires the Hub because its Patch Management is delivered as a managed service. Avast says these three products don't use the older on-premise console.
What to verify in a 30-day pilot
- Create separate policies. Start with workstations, servers, Macs and high-risk users instead of one global policy.
- Deploy to a representative group. Include remote laptops, finance apps, VPN clients, custom binaries and at least one supported server.
- Measure friction. Record boot/login time, large-file operations, builds, backups, conferencing and full-scan impact—not only idle CPU.
- Exercise detections safely. Use EICAR/AMTSO checks and vendor-supported simulations, never live malware on a production network.
- Test false-positive workflow. Confirm alert context, quarantine restore, exclusions, approval and audit trail before an urgent block occurs.
- Test offboarding and failure. Remove a device, rotate admin access, simulate an offline endpoint and document emergency uninstall/recovery.
The console can reduce routine work, but it isn't the same as EDR investigation. A buyer who needs process trees, cross-endpoint threat hunting, automated host isolation, identity correlation, long telemetry retention or a 24/7 analyst service should compare dedicated EDR/XDR/MDR platforms.
Platforms: good Windows coverage, uneven cross-platform fit
The current small-business comparison lists Windows PCs, macOS and Windows Server. It doesn't list Linux workstations/servers, Android or iOS endpoints for this product line. A mixed fleet may therefore need another product or parallel controls, which increases policy and incident-response complexity.

Check the live Avast Business system requirements against every build before contracting. A marketing page that still names an old Windows or Server release isn't permission to keep an end-of-life operating system in production.
Deployment, performance and false-positive risk
AV-TEST’s April performance score was 6/6 on its Windows test systems. That's reassuring but not a capacity plan for your fleet. Endpoint impact changes with CPU, disk, compilation workloads, backup windows, virtual desktops, large archives and concurrent security agents.
Don't leave another real-time antivirus active unless both vendors document coexistence. Plan uninstall/reboot order, exclusions for supported server workloads, maintenance windows and a rollback path. On macOS, test Web Shield/system-extension behavior alongside corporate VPN and network-filter tools; community reports about interactions are leads for a pilot, not proof of a universal defect.
AV-Comparatives placed Avast in its Low band for false positives on non-business/uncommon files while recording zero false alarms on the common-business set. Teams with self-built executables, unsigned internal tools or niche software should put those exact files through the pilot and define a controlled exception process.
Privacy and vendor trust need procurement review
Avast’s strong current malware results don't erase its corporate privacy history. In June 2024, the FTC finalized an order concerning historical consumer browsing data sold through Jumpshot. The order barred sale/licensing of browsing data for advertising, required deletion and consent measures, mandated a privacy program and required a $16.5 million payment.
That record is a legitimate supplier-risk question; it isn't evidence that the current Business Hub repeats the same conduct. Procurement should review the current business privacy notice, data-processing terms, telemetry controls, subprocessor list, data location/retention, administrator roles, MFA/SSO options, breach-notification terms and deletion/export process. Regulated organizations should obtain written answers rather than infer them from a consumer privacy page.

Our score reflects a capable small-business EPP and management bundle, not an enterprise detection platform. A 20-device accounting firm and a 100-device software company can have the same device count but very different needs for custom-code exclusions, identity monitoring, Linux and after-hours response.

Avast Business Security earns 8.6/10. Its April 2026 Windows lab results are strong, the Hub lowers the management barrier for a small team and the three tiers map cleanly from prevention to privacy/USB controls to Windows patch automation. That's a useful package for the audience it actually serves.
Don't buy from the lab score alone. Premium/Ultimate feature parity breaks on Mac; Linux and mobile endpoints sit outside this line; Ultimate’s cloud management is mandatory; and sophisticated detection/response programs need more telemetry or a managed team. Run the 30-day pilot with your least ordinary applications and insist on current privacy, support and renewal terms in writing.
