Panda uses one mobile brand for two very different products. Android gets real-time app scanning, file scans, Privacy Auditor and deeper anti-theft actions. iPhone gets VPN, Family and remote location—not an Android-style antivirus scanner. This guide separates those jobs, the permissions they cost and the safest response when a phone disappears.
Verdict: Panda Dome is a credible free Android utility if you want visible app/file scanning, permission review and account-based anti-theft in one app. It is not independently validated in the current Android reports we checked, and many functions duplicate Google’s built-ins. On iPhone, do not buy it as an antivirus scanner: the defensible value is VPN, Family and remote location. Compare the exact platform feature, permission and renewal before keeping it.
The short answer: useful on Android, easy to misunderstand on iPhone
Panda’s current Google Play listing describes an actual Android antivirus. It scans downloaded apps and updates in real time, scans files and multimedia on demand, checks SD cards, audits app permissions and supports remote location actions. That is a coherent free package for someone who wants one visible place to inspect apps and a lost phone.
The iOS proposition is different. Panda’s current App Store description centers on VPN, Panda Dome Family and anti-theft location. It does not document scanning every installed app, examining unrelated system files or removing malware across the device. Apple’s sandbox prevents ordinary third-party apps from roaming through other apps in the way a Windows or Android scanner can.
Our recommendation follows the platform, not the logo. Android users can trial Panda against built-in Play Protect and Find Hub, then decide whether the extra console and Privacy Auditor justify permissions and battery use. iPhone users should compare Panda’s VPN and Family value with Apple Find My and native controls. One Panda account does not create Android and iOS feature parity
Panda’s cross-device help sends Android users to Google Play and iOS users to the App Store, then connects both to My Panda. That shared account is useful for device management, but it can obscure the fact that the operating systems expose different security APIs. A feature tile in a plan comparison is not proof that the same engine exists on both phones.
Android permits security apps to inspect installed packages, downloaded APKs and accessible files, subject to Android’s permission and background rules. Panda can therefore provide real-time app checks, on-demand scans, Privacy Auditor and device-management actions. iOS isolates third-party apps and limits them to their own container plus explicitly granted services. Panda can provide a VPN tunnel, location/family functions and account services, but not a Windows-style sweep of every app.
This distinction also prevents bad troubleshooting. An iPhone showing no “Scan now” button is not necessarily broken; the button may not belong to that platform. An Android phone showing only VPN and account services may be signed into the wrong entitlement, missing permissions or running a different store build. Always name the OS, app version and exact feature before calling support.
Free covers core Android scanning; paid plans add services, not parity
On Android, the current store page lists antivirus scans, Privacy Auditor, anti-theft/location and a limited VPN in the free experience. Pro functions include call blocking, a thief photo after failed unlock attempts, app lock and a motion alarm. Panda says those Pro features can come through several paid Dome or Family entitlements, but the account shown after activation is the controlling evidence.
On iOS, the free proposition is primarily the limited VPN and remote-location/account path, while Family and premium VPN depend on the product attached to the Panda account or in-app purchase. Do not infer Android anti-theft lock/wipe, app lock, thief photo or malware scans from a paid cross-platform plan name. The platform matrix is the buying decision
Panda’s current cross-device help provides the clearest anti-theft boundary: Android can locate, lock, wipe, snap the thief and sound an alarm; iOS gets remote location. Store pages add the remaining Android scanner and iOS VPN/Family details.

A product can still be useful when the matrix is narrow. The problem begins when “compatible with Android and iOS” is read as “identical protection.” Use the required job—scan sideloaded apps, locate a child, protect public Wi-Fi or recover a lost phone—to choose the platform tool.
Panda has no current Android result in the mobile reports checked
AV-Comparatives’ Mobile Security Review 2025 tested Android 15 with 3,322 malicious apps and 500 clean apps. The tested products were Avast, AVG, Avira, Bitdefender, ESET, G DATA, Google Play Protect, Kaspersky, Norton and Securion. Panda is absent. That means no current score, not a zero or a failed certification.
AV-TEST’s Panda Android manufacturer page lists Panda Mobile Security tests from 2014 and November 2017. Its March 2026 Android comparison evaluates current products, but Panda is not among the surfaced participants. An old result cannot measure the April 2026 Google Play build.
We therefore verify features and operational behavior without inventing a protection rate, battery percentage or false-positive number. Desktop Panda results do not transfer to Android; Android results would not transfer to iOS. If current independent malware performance is the primary buying criterion, select a mobile product included in the current report and compare its scope.
Google Play Protect and Find Hub already cover important Android risks
Google Play Protect checks apps at installation and periodically scans installed apps, including apps from outside Google Play. It can warn, disable or remove potentially harmful apps. Chrome Safe Browsing and Android permission controls add other layers. Panda is therefore an additional engine and dashboard, not the first protection an ordinary certified Android phone receives. Google’s Find Hub guidance covers locating, ringing, marking lost and erasing a phone, with encrypted recent location in the network. Android 15 also adds theft-detection and private-space controls. Panda’s anti-theft console can still be convenient for a mixed Panda household, but duplicate commands require careful device naming.
Keep Play Protect enabled unless a qualified administrator has a documented reason to change it. Test which system owns location and locking before an emergency. Panda’s strongest extra is the combination of visible file/app scans, Privacy Auditor and one brand account; its weakest case is a user who needs only functions already working through Google.
Apple’s sandbox explains why the iOS app is not an antivirus scanner
Apple’s runtime security documentation says all third-party iOS apps are sandboxed. Each app has its own directory, and access outside it occurs only through services explicitly provided by iOS. System resources are protected, and APIs do not let an app escalate privileges to modify other apps.
That design is why an iPhone security app focuses on VPN, web/account monitoring or location instead of scanning every installed app. Panda does not replace App Store review, code signing, sandboxing, iOS security updates or Find My. It can add services around those layers, but marketing language such as “protects iOS” must be translated into the actual feature list.
Apple Find My already locates, rings, marks lost and can erase an iPhone while Activation Lock protects it. Panda’s documented iOS anti-theft action is remote location. A Panda household may prefer one console, yet the built-in Apple account remains the recovery foundation. Keep trusted-device and recovery methods current before relying on any third-party map.
Install only from the official store and activate on the target phone
Use Google Play package `com.pandasecurity.pandaav` on Android or Panda Security’s verified App Store listing on iPhone/iPad. Avoid APK download sites, “Panda Helper” lookalikes and sponsored pages with unfamiliar domains. Panda’s installation help recommends opening My Panda on the target device and following the store redirect.
Sign into the correct Panda account, add the activation code if necessary and confirm the device name, product and platform. A single code may cover several devices, but the available modules still follow the OS. Our activation and device guide covers exhausted seats and stale devices.
Requirements are inconsistent across Panda pages: one Android article still says Android 5, while a broader current requirements page says Android 6; older iOS comparison text can differ from the current iOS 13 requirement. Let the live store compatibility check and target device decide. Save the OS/build and app version so support can reproduce a failure.
Android permissions power the features and expand the blast radius
Scanning can need access to files or media allowed by the current Android version. Real-time/background behavior can depend on notification and battery settings. Location needs precise or background access for anti-theft and Family workflows. The VPN creates a `VPNService` connection. Call blocking can require phone/contact access. Grant each permission only for a feature you intend to use.
Device-admin or equivalent anti-theft authority deserves special attention because it can support remote locking or wiping and can block ordinary uninstall until revoked. Protect the Panda account with a unique password and MFA if offered. Never grant the same authority to an unofficial copy simply because its icon or name resembles Panda.
Read the current Google Play Data safety disclosure as part of that permission decision. Panda says the Android app may collect or share location, personal information and other data types, encrypts data in transit and supports a deletion request. A store disclosure describes declared handling, not a guarantee that every optional feature is necessary for your phone, so keep only the access tied to a job you use.
Modern Android may hibernate unused apps or restrict background work. Exempt Panda only as far as the chosen feature requires; do not disable battery protections for the entire phone. Review permissions after app or OS updates and before removal. A feature that cannot explain why it needs a permission is not automatically worth enabling.
Android scanning needs a calm detection workflow
Panda’s current Android scan help says Scan now checks files and installed apps and reports progress. It documents three actions for a detection: Uninstall, Exclude or Close/postpone, with Uninstall recommended. That is more precise than treating every alert as an emergency wipe.
Before excluding, read the app/package name, source, requested permissions and detection label. An unknown sideloaded APK is different from a well-known app with a disputed signature. Do not download live malware to test a phone. A harmless completed scan proves workflow and permissions, not detection quality. If the app reports a threat it cannot remove, disconnect sensitive sessions, preserve the alert, update Panda and Android, then use the supported removal path. Factory reset belongs after account and backup planning, not as the first reaction.
Privacy Auditor shows access, not malicious intent
Panda’s Privacy Auditor help groups Android apps that can access location, accounts, camera, microphone and other sensitive resources. It can route the user to remove an app. This is useful for discovering an old flashlight with location access or a forgotten app that still sees contacts.
The category is not a verdict. A navigation app legitimately needs location; a camera app needs the camera. The store phrase about access to “bank accounts” should not be read as proof Panda can inspect bank balances or that every listed app reads financial data. Android permissions and account-related APIs are more nuanced than that shorthand.
Ask three questions: does the permission match the app’s job, is it needed all the time, and do you still use the app? Change the permission to while-in-use or deny it when possible, test functionality, and uninstall abandoned software. The auditor is most valuable as a review queue, not a red/green morality score.
Panda anti-theft is broader on Android and location-only on iOS
On Android, Panda documents remote locate, lock and wipe, plus eligible Pro actions such as thief photo and alarm. Location can use GPS and fall back to Wi-Fi or mobile networks. Every map point needs its timestamp and accuracy context; a stale position is not “live” simply because the dashboard is open.
On iOS, Panda’s own matrix documents remote locate, not Android-style lock, wipe, photo or alarm. Apple Find My handles Lost Mode, Activation Lock and erase. Reviews that list Panda “anti-theft” once for both platforms conceal the most important operational difference.
Test location and ring while the phone is in hand. Use an unambiguous device name, confirm the account can be recovered without the missing phone and keep the carrier/IMEI details elsewhere. Never test wipe casually. Remote controls are valuable only when the operator can identify the exact target under stress.
On iPhone, evaluate VPN, Family and location as separate services
The current PandaDome App Store listing describes Free VPN, Dome Family parental controls and anti-theft. It does not describe Android’s real-time app scanning, file scan, Privacy Auditor or remote wipe. The App Store category and privacy label cover the iOS app, not the Android security engine.
Family can be useful in a mixed Android/iOS household, but iOS imposes tighter management limits. Our Panda Dome Family review separates app-use visibility from reading messages and explains location/background tradeoffs. Test each desired block or schedule on the actual iPhone.
If you need only device recovery, start with Apple Find My. If you need public-Wi-Fi privacy, compare the VPN independently. If you need phishing or identity alerts, verify the exact paid service. Do not pay for the word “antivirus” on an invoice when the required iPhone job is not present in the app.
The 150 MB/day VPN is a safety sample, not an all-day tunnel
Panda currently documents a limited mobile VPN with 150 MB per day, one device and a default location. Premium expands data, server/location choice and device allowance. That small free quota can cover a short sensitive session on public Wi-Fi, but streaming, large downloads and background traffic can consume it quickly.
Panda’s VPN help lists Catapult Hydra, OpenVPN and WireGuard on Android, with IPSec also listed for macOS/iOS. Protocol availability can vary by build. Verify that the system VPN indicator appears, check IP/DNS behavior with a reputable test and confirm what happens when the tunnel disconnects. Disconnect the VPN while diagnosing app-store, banking or captive-portal failures, then reconnect after the cause is known. One mobile VPN profile can conflict with another VPN, DNS filter or parental-control tunnel. Remove unused profiles; do not stack multiple always-on traffic managers and then guess which one blocked the connection.
Battery drain usually comes from scanning, VPN or continuous location
A first scan, active VPN and background GPS are different workloads. Android’s battery screen can show which process is active; iOS can show app and background activity. Compare a normal day with and without the optional feature rather than judging the first hour after installation or an app update.
If real-time scanning stops, Android battery optimization or app hibernation may be restricting Panda. If location stops, check precise/background permission, GPS, data connection and automatic date/time. If the VPN drains power, confirm it is not reconnecting repeatedly on unstable Wi-Fi. Change one variable at a time.
Do not invent a universal battery percentage. Current independent mobile reports do not include Panda, and handset, radio, OS and use pattern matter. Persistent drain after updates and correct setup is a valid reason to disable an optional module or uninstall during the refund window; permanent blanket exemptions are not the only solution.
When Panda will not scan or update, identify platform and state first
On Android, confirm the official package, network, app version, Panda account and scan permission. Run an on-demand scan and read the exact status. If the app claims real-time protection is off, check background restrictions and notification/state controls. Do not reinstall until you have recorded the error; reinstalling can erase the evidence.
On iOS, the absence of an Android-style scanner is expected, not an update failure. Verify the VPN, Family or locate function you actually installed. If a paid tile is missing on either platform, check the account entitlement and device seat before blaming the engine.
Remove a competing always-on antivirus, VPN or device-management tool only through its supported flow and only when overlap is confirmed. Update the OS and store app, restart once if prompted, then retest. Use Panda’s support hub with OS/build, app version, feature, time and screenshot—not a vague “mobile protection broken.”
A lost phone needs identity and account checks before remote wipe
Start by selecting the exact device and reading the last-seen time and accuracy. Ring or locate it, mark it lost or lock it through the strongest available built-in service, and secure the Google/Apple/Panda account plus carrier access. A map pin is evidence about the device, not permission to confront a suspected thief.
Google warns that erase permanently deletes phone data and can end normal Find Hub location; Apple says to try recovery first and keep Activation Lock/Find My attached even after erase in theft scenarios. Panda’s Android wipe must follow the same safety standard. Confirm cloud backup, authenticator recovery and the exact old phone before sending the command.
Report theft to the carrier and authorities where appropriate, preserve IMEI/serial details and ignore messages asking for passcodes or verification codes. Apple explicitly warns that it will not contact you to say a device was found. Secure accounts from a trusted device and do not remove activation protections merely because a stranger sends a convincing link.
Remove Panda cleanly and compare it with the built-in baseline
On Android, disconnect Panda VPN and disable anti-theft/device-admin authority if Android requires that before uninstall. Uninstall when permissions, battery use or subscription cost exceed the solved risk. Keep the built-in protections and account recovery healthy. The best replacement is the smallest documented tool that covers the real job, not another cross-platform bundle whose mobile matrix you have not read.
