Sophos Home Pricing: Cost, Trial and Renewal Explained

Sophos Home has one paid consumer plan rather than a maze of Basic, Plus and Ultimate tiers. The hard part is elsewhere: ten included computer seats make the same $59.99 MSRP excellent for a large household and expensive for one laptop, while trial, legacy Free, mobile and renewal rules describe four different entitlements.

$59.99 US MSRPUp to 10 computers30-day no-card trialAuto-renewal on by default

Quick answer: Sophos currently lists a $59.99 US annual MSRP for one Premium subscription covering up to ten Windows and Mac computers. New users get a 30-day Premium trial on three computers without entering payment details. Paid subscriptions auto-renew by default through Cleverbridge; grandfathered Free exists only for accounts that switched before November 11, 2021.

Sophos Home price in 2026: one MSRP, regional checkout

The clearest stable public number is in Sophos Home’s current expired-license guidance: $59.99 MSRP per year for up to ten Windows and Mac computers. Sophos immediately adds that seasonal promotions can change pricing. That makes $59.99 a useful US reference, not a universal invoice.

On August 5, 2026, our European browser view of the official Sophos Home storefront showed a 25% promotion. One year displayed €37.46 against €49.95; two years €67.46 against €89.95; three years €86.21 against €114.95. The storefront was clearly localizing currency despite the English-language route, which is exactly why a dollar figure from a search result should never be treated as a quote.

2 years€67.46€89.95€33.73about €44.98
3 years€86.21€114.95about €28.74about €38.32

These values are a dated observation, not Offer schema or a promise. Country, currency, tax, campaign, term and the reseller checkout can all change. Before paying, save the final total, renewal statement, term and account email from your own cart; those fields matter more than a promotional percentage.

Sophos Home Premium is one plan, not a tier ladder

There is no current consumer choice between Essential, Deluxe and Premium. The paid product is Sophos Home Premium, and its official feature matrix covers one subscription shared across up to ten mixed Windows and Mac computers. That simplicity is refreshing, but “same plan” does not mean identical features on both operating systems.

Both platforms receive real-time antivirus, malicious-site protection, category-based parental web filtering, remote management, ransomware security and advanced web/banking protection. The current matrix names predictive AI threat detection, advanced malware scan/clean and AMSI integration for Windows but not Mac. A household can mix computers under the license, yet the feature value of each seat depends on its operating system.

Premium support is included while the subscription is active. Current documentation lists live chat and email Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. US Eastern, with chatbot and knowledge-base access around the clock. Support hours and response quality are services, not protection scores, so judge the core product through our current Sophos Home review before assigning the full MSRP to support.

The ten-computer license is cheap only when seats are used

Sophos sells the same annual MSRP to a one-computer buyer and a ten-computer household. The maximum entitlement is not a discount by itself; unused seats have no protective or financial value. Count supported household computers that will genuinely remain enrolled for the year, then divide the real checkout total by that number.

Computers actually usedCost per computer at $59.99 MSRPPractical reading
1$59.99/yearNine included seats add no value
3about $20.00/yearCompetitive only if the console and support matter
5about $12.00/yearGood household economics
8about $7.50/yearStrong multi-computer value
10about $6.00/yearBest seat efficiency

The browser dashboard is the reason this math can translate into practical value. One trusted person can check status, trigger scans, review history and adjust settings for relatives who live elsewhere. If every computer belongs to the same technically confident owner, remote management may matter less than protection consistency or performance.

Do not fill unused seats with unsupported systems or business computers just to improve the arithmetic. Sophos Home is for private, personal use; Windows ARM, ChromeOS and Linux are not supported. Employer-managed hardware belongs under the employer’s security policy even if a spare Home seat exists.

The 30-day trial is genuinely no-card—but stops protecting

New users receive all Premium features for 30 days on up to three Windows or Mac computers. Sophos says it does not collect payment information for this trial, so there is no card to charge and no automatic conversion into a paid term. This is a meaningful difference from trials that require cancellation to avoid billing.

No-card does not mean no consequence at day 30. Sophos’ current guidance says an expired trial stops protecting the computer, disables the devices in the dashboard and prevents settings or device management until the account becomes active. Calendar the end date and decide before it arrives whether to buy, remove Sophos or confirm another supported provider is working.

Use the trial as an operational test, not a malware stunt. Install on one representative computer first, watch file copies, application launches, battery, scans, web filtering and false positives, then expand. The current independent performance result is heavy enough that an older family PC should prove itself before all ten seats are filled.

Sophos Home Free is a grandfathered entitlement, not a signup

Search results still describe Sophos Home Free because it was once open to new users. The current official rule is narrower: accounts that switched to Free before November 11, 2021 retain their existing Free license for up to three Windows and/or Mac computers. A new reader in 2026 cannot use that exception to create a permanent free account.

Legacy status also makes reinstall decisions important. The official documentation controls entitlement, while recent community questions show that people still confuse old Free, current trial and Premium. Before removing a working grandfathered installation, sign in, record the account status and device list, and read the current reinstall guidance; do not assume an old download page can recreate the entitlement.

Free and Premium are not two public tiers that every buyer can compare at checkout. For most readers the choice is the 30-day trial followed by Premium or another product. A legacy-Free owner has a separate migration decision and should avoid letting a generic “Free is discontinued” sentence erase an account-specific right.

Employee and academic coupons create a fifth account state

Sophos also supports Home Commercial Edition and Academic coupons distributed through participating employers or universities. The current coupon guide says an eligible account can switch to Premium or Free Academic depending on the code. This is not a public promo code and it should not be priced as a normal retail discount; the organization controls eligibility and continuation.

A coupon is one-time, non-transferable and permanently linked to the account that redeems it. Sophos hides the “Have a coupon?” option while a paid subscription or trial is active, so an eligible user must wait for that entitlement to expire before applying the code. Buying Premium on top of a coupon gives the paid subscription precedence rather than stacking extra time.

Support is another boundary. Current documentation says SHCE/Academic coupon accounts do not receive live-agent Premium Support; the user relies on the school or employer’s IT team, the knowledge base and chatbot. That makes a zero-price academic entitlement different from a personally purchased Premium subscription even when endpoint features look similar.

The coupon renews only while the sponsoring organization maintains its Sophos agreement. Record the sponsoring institution, account email and fallback plan before treating it as permanent household protection. If employment or enrollment changes, verify the entitlement rather than assuming an automatic retail renewal will begin.

Trial, Premium, legacy Free and mobile are four different paths

The product names become much easier when each entitlement is attached to its own device and billing rule. Trial is temporary Premium on three computers with no card. Premium is paid protection on up to ten computers. Legacy Free is an account exception capped at three computers. Mobile is a separate app and never becomes a Home dashboard seat.

Sophos Home trial, Premium, legacy Free and separate mobile entitlement map
Editorial licensing map, not product UI: identify the account entitlement before comparing devices, billing or renewal.

This separation prevents two expensive mistakes. A phone does not consume one of the ten paid computer seats, and a trial cannot silently renew because Sophos collected no payment method. Conversely, an expired trial does not fall back to the grandfathered Free license unless the account already qualifies for that historical exception.

“Unlimited mobile” means a separate free app, not extra Home seats

The official storefront markets up to ten Windows/Mac computers plus unlimited iOS and Android phones or tablets. The operational explanation is in the Sophos Home mobile guide: users install the separate free Sophos Intercept X for Mobile app. Those devices do not appear in the Sophos Home dashboard and do not consume Home computer seats.

Premium customers can receive Home support for the mobile app, which is a service benefit rather than a paid seat. The unmanaged consumer mobile app is also different from business-managed Sophos Mobile or Intercept X Endpoint. A ten-computer Home purchase should not be valued as a central console for every phone in the family because that console connection does not exist.

Platform capability differs further. Android security apps can inspect installed apps and device posture subject to permissions; iOS sandboxing limits broad file scanning. Price the mobile app at zero, then judge whether its separate feature set solves the phone requirement.

One-, two- and three-year options trade flexibility for discount

Our current regional storefront exposed one-, two- and three-year terms, with a lower annualized campaign price on longer commitments. The three-year promotion averaged about €28.74 per year versus €37.46 for one year. That saves money only if the household wants the same product for the full term and can tolerate the upfront payment.

Sophos’ renewal guidance says a subscription cannot extend beyond three years. It also says an existing subscriber who wants another length or price must turn off automatic renewal, wait for the current term to expire and then buy the desired option. There is no documented mid-term button that simply converts a one-year purchase into a cheaper three-year cart.

Longer prepayment magnifies product risk. The current review found credible protection but inconsistent lab outcomes and the heaviest result in AV-Comparatives’ April 2026 performance test. Use the trial on the slowest important computer before locking three years, and keep the refund deadline visible while the household tests real workloads.

Paid Sophos Home subscriptions auto-renew by default

The current Sophos renewal guide is explicit: paid Premium subscriptions automatically renew by default. The account dashboard translates the state into plain words. “Renews” means automatic renewal is on; “Expires” means it is off and protection will end on the displayed date.

Cleverbridge sends renewal emails to the address used for purchase. If the message is missing, use the verified Purchase Lookup route linked from Sophos support rather than a phone number found in search. Turning renewal off prevents the next term but leaves the already-paid protection active until expiry.

Automatic renewal normally needs no product reinstall when the same account email remains in use. A manual purchase after expiry or after a trial can require license-key activation. Use the same email as the existing Sophos Home account so enrolled installations can recognize the restored entitlement.

Cleverbridge controls the receipt, payment details and refund

Sophos Home subscriptions are purchased through Cleverbridge. The current billing guide directs customers to Purchase Lookup for the invoice, receipt and initial license key. Generated secure email links expire after 30 days, but a new email can be requested.

Manage Subscription in the Sophos Home dashboard can expose subscription and payment controls, while billing changes themselves are handled by Cleverbridge. Keep the original order email, account address, plan term, total, currency, tax, next renewal date and refund deadline. The license key appears in the initial order detail, so store it privately rather than pasting it into support forums.

The same guide says a direct buyer can request a refund within 30 days of purchase. Stopping automatic renewal and requesting a refund are different actions: cancellation changes the next billing event; a refund asks Cleverbridge to reverse an eligible current order. Uninstalling the software does neither.

Search results for cancellation sometimes contain unrelated PDFs packed with toll-free numbers and invented plan names. Sophos Home does not sell “Complete Protection Membership” or “Sophos Home 360.” Do not call numbers from those files, share a card, or allow remote access; start from the typed Sophos domain, the dashboard or the verified Cleverbridge order route.

An expired license disables Sophos Home protection and controls

Sophos says expired Premium and trial devices appear gray or disabled in the dashboard. The account cannot protect or remove devices or change settings until it is active again, and the endpoint is not protected by Sophos Home during that state. This is not a reduced free mode for a new account.

If auto-renewal is off by choice, prepare the handoff before expiry. Select another supported security provider, obtain its installer, preserve any Sophos quarantine evidence you need and confirm the replacement registers correctly with Windows Security or has the required macOS permissions. Do not leave two real-time suites fighting for control.

If expiry was accidental, the same-email rule matters. Renew or buy through the existing account, then verify each computer returns to protected status. A successful card charge alone does not prove that every endpoint has checked in.

Who gets good value from Sophos Home?

Best fit: a household administrator responsible for six to ten supported Windows and Mac computers. At MSRP, ten used seats average roughly $6 per year, and the remote console can replace repeated in-person status checks. This is the rare scenario where both licensing and workflow favor Sophos.

Conditional fit: three to five computers whose owner values centralized management and support. The per-computer price is reasonable, but compare protection and performance with Bitdefender, ESET and Microsoft Defender. A low seat cost cannot offset a poor match for the household’s actual hardware.

Weak fit: one computer, an Android/iOS-only household, Windows ARM, Chromebook or Linux. One computer bears the full $59.99 MSRP, mobile uses a separate free app, and the unsupported platforms cannot consume the paid entitlement. The plan’s headline capacity becomes unused inventory.

Wrong fit: business, charity, client or managed work endpoints. Sophos Home’s consumer terms limit the product to private, personal and non-commercial use. Intercept X Endpoint and Sophos Central use separate licensing and management; a Home subscription cannot be converted into them.

Record these seven fields before paying

Save the exact term, amount collected now, displayed list or renewal amount, currency, tax, account email and refund deadline. Then capture the confirmation showing whether the subscription will renew. A 25% badge is less useful than a cart that identifies when and how much the reseller can charge.

After purchase, open the dashboard from a verified domain and confirm the license state, expiry/renewal wording and enrolled-computer count. Calendar the 30-day refund deadline and review the subscription well before the renewal date. If the product does not fit, preserve cancellation and refund confirmations separately.

Sophos Home pricing and renewal FAQ

How much does Sophos Home cost in 2026?

Sophos Home’s current US support documentation lists a $59.99 annual MSRP for up to ten Windows and Mac computers. Regional storefronts can show another currency, tax and promotion. On August 5, 2026, our European view showed €37.46 for one year against €49.95 displayed list price, so the exact cart—not a copied review number—controls your purchase.

Is Sophos Home still free?

Not for a new general consumer account. New users receive a 30-day Premium trial for up to three Windows or Mac computers without supplying payment information. Accounts that switched to Sophos Home Free before November 11, 2021 retain a grandfathered Free entitlement for up to three computers; that legacy exception is not a new-user offer.

How many devices does Sophos Home Premium cover?

One Premium subscription covers up to ten mixed Windows and Mac computers for private, personal use. Android and iOS use the separate free Sophos Intercept X for Mobile app. Mobile devices do not consume a Home computer seat and do not appear as managed Home devices in the dashboard.

Does the Sophos Home trial require a credit card?

No. Sophos says the 30-day trial collects no payment information, so it cannot turn itself into a paid renewal. The trial includes Premium features on up to three computers. When it expires, protection stops unless you buy and activate Premium.

Does Sophos Home renew automatically?

Yes for a normal paid direct subscription: Sophos says automatic renewal is on by default. The dashboard says “Renews” when it is active and “Expires” when it is off. Cleverbridge sends the order and renewal email and provides the Purchase Lookup route used to manage billing.

How do I turn off Sophos Home auto-renewal?

Use Manage Subscription in the Sophos Home dashboard or the secure Cleverbridge order email. If the email link has expired, generate another through Cleverbridge Purchase Lookup. Save the confirmation and verify that the dashboard changes from “Renews” to “Expires”; turning renewal off does not end the already-paid term.

Can I change from a one-year to a two- or three-year Sophos plan?

Sophos says an active subscription cannot simply be converted to another price or length. Turn off automatic renewal, wait for the current term to expire, then purchase the desired term. A subscription cannot be extended beyond three years, and a Home subscription cannot be converted into a business subscription.

Can I get a refund for Sophos Home?

Sophos’ current billing guide says direct buyers can request a refund within 30 days of purchase through Cleverbridge. Cancellation and refund are separate actions: stopping auto-renewal prevents a future charge, while a refund request asks to reverse an eligible current purchase. Keep the receipt and act inside the stated window.

What happens when Sophos Home expires?

Sophos says the protected computers become disabled in the dashboard, device and setting controls are unavailable, and Sophos Home protection no longer works until the account is active again. Verify that another supported security provider is active if you let the subscription expire; do not assume an instant, error-free handoff.

Is Sophos Home good value for one computer?

Usually not on seat economics alone. At the $59.99 MSRP, one computer costs $59.99 per year, while ten used computers average about $6 each. A one-computer buyer should compare Microsoft Defender, Bitdefender, ESET and other current options on protection, performance, support and total renewal cost rather than paying for nine unused seats.

Bottom line: Sophos sells ten seats, not ten units of value

The pricing is unusually simple on paper: one Premium plan, $59.99 US MSRP, up to ten Windows/Mac computers. The value is highly uneven in practice. A family IT administrator using most seats gets an inexpensive central console; a one-laptop buyer pays the same total for capacity that will sit idle.

Use the no-card trial, calculate cost per computer actually enrolled, separate mobile from Home seats, and save the Cleverbridge renewal state before paying. A longer promotional term can reduce annual cost, but only after the product proves itself on the household’s real machines.
