Cancel Intego and Request a Refund Without Losing the Proof
Turning off auto-renewal stops a future charge. It doesn't refund a completed purchase, and uninstalling does neither. Start with the invoice, charge date and seller, then verify every ONE, X9 and separately billed add-on record.

Quick answer: If the renewal is still in the future, turn off auto-renewal and save the confirmation. If a direct Intego purchase or renewal posted within 30 days, also submit a separate refund ticket with the invoice and charge date. Third-party purchases follow the seller's policy. Uninstall only after billing and replacement protection are settled.
Start with the charge date and the seller

| Your situation | Action now | What it changes | Evidence to keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Renewal is still in the future | Turn off auto-renewal | Stops the next charge; current term remains | Confirmation and renewed-through date |
| Direct Intego charge posted ≤30 days ago | Cancel next renewal + refund ticket | Prevents another charge and requests reversal | Invoice, ticket ID, charge date |
| Direct charge is older than 30 days | Cancel future renewal; ask support | Stops next charge; refund not promised | Invoice and support reply |
| Another store or reseller sold it | Use that seller's policy | Depends on purchase channel | Seller receipt and terms |
| Charge conflicts with saved cancellation | Merchant ticket, then issuer rules if unresolved | Investigates a billing error | Cancellation timestamp and statement |
The fastest correct path starts with two questions: has money already been charged, and who sold the subscription? A cancellation button can't reverse a settled charge, while a refund request doesn't necessarily stop the next renewal. Treat them as separate controls.
Don't begin by uninstalling the app or replacing the payment card. Download the invoice, identify the product and preserve the account state first. That evidence is what lets support, a processor or an issuer distinguish a legitimate renewal from a different legacy subscription.
Cancellation, refund and uninstall do three different jobs
| Action | Billing effect | Access effect | What it doesn't prove |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turn off auto-renewal | Stops the next renewal | Paid term normally continues | Refund of a posted charge |
| Submit refund request | Asks merchant to reverse eligible charge | May end entitlement after processing | Future renewal is disabled |
| Uninstall application | None by itself | Removes local software | Subscription cancellation |
| Remove/deauthorize device | None by itself | Frees or changes a license seat | Billing cancellation |
| Issuer dispute | Starts bank/provider investigation | No clean entitlement promise | Automatic merchant cancellation |
Intego's current renewal article says clicking Cancel Subscription cancels the upcoming renewal and doesn't refund a recent order or renewal. That sentence resolves the most expensive misunderstanding in the SERP. If a charge just posted, perform both operations: stop the next cycle and open the refund ticket.
Uninstalling belongs at the end, after the billing outcome and replacement protection are clear. A Mac with no third-party antivirus still has Apple's built-in controls, but removing a chosen real-time product without checking the paid-through date can create an avoidable protection gap.
Audit every ONE, X9 and add-on subscription
| Record | Where to look | Why it can be separate | Cancellation proof |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intego ONE | Billing & Invoices / Your Plan | Current unified Mac suite | Auto-renewal off + exact date |
| X9 bundle | Legacy My Account / Manage Subscription | Older bundle and processor route | Processor/account confirmation |
| Privacy Protection | Legacy account/order email | Separate VPN purchase can remain | Its own subscription confirmation |
| Personal Backup | Legacy account/order email | Not included in ONE | Its own subscription confirmation |
| ContentBarrier | Legacy account/order email | No ONE equivalent | Its own subscription confirmation |
One account can contain more than one renewal record, especially after an X9-to-ONE migration. Intego's July 2026 migration FAQ says separately purchased Privacy Protection, Personal Backup and other legacy services can continue billing. Cancelling ONE isn't a blanket cancellation of those products.
Build a one-line ledger for every record: product, plan, device count, term, next renewal, amount, seller/processor and account email. Our ONE versus X9 guide maps the product generations, while the account and device guide separates subscription ownership from device seats.
Turn off renewal before the next charge—not after the reminder is lost
Intego's July 24 auto-renewal guide says subscriptions default to automatic renewal and can be disabled before the next renewal date. It also says a notice is sent 7–10 days before renewal with the date and expected amount. Treat that as the vendor's notification policy, not proof that a particular email reached the inbox.
Set your own reminder earlier, then confirm directly in the account. Search spam and the current account email, but don't wait for a message when the renewal date is already visible. A changed email address can also move future billing notices, so save the address associated with each record.
Check the upcoming price as well as the date. The Intego pricing and renewal guide explains why a promotional first term can renew at the standard price. Price surprise is a reason to cancel or downgrade; it isn't evidence that a charge was unauthorized.
How to cancel Intego ONE auto-renewal
Sign in to Intego My Account with the email that owns the subscription, open Billing & Invoices, find Billing Info and select Turn Off Auto-Renewal. Read the pop-up, verify that it names the intended subscription, then select Turn Off Auto-Renewal again. The current guide says a confirmation appears at the bottom of the page.
Don't stop at the transient banner. Reload Billing & Invoices, confirm the control now offers to turn renewal back on or otherwise shows the disabled state, and capture a screenshot with product and date but without private payment details. Download the invoice before leaving.
Turning off renewal doesn't immediately remove paid features or devices. Intego's current ONE downgrade article says coverage continues until the subscription expires. The special 11-day grace wording in the migration FAQ applies to that described migrated ONE situation and shouldn't be advertised as a universal grace period.
How to cancel an X9 or processor-managed renewal
For X9, sign in to the legacy account, open My Account, locate Subscription and Billing or Payment Method, then choose Manage Subscription for the exact product. Intego's renewal-cost guide documents this separate X9 route. It can redirect to the payment processor that owns the billing record.
FastSpring and 2Checkout aren't interchangeable logins. Intego says a 2Checkout account is separate from the Intego account, so use the original order email or password recovery instead of assuming the portal is broken. Confirm the product name and renewal date at the processor before clicking cancel.
Keep the processor confirmation together with the Intego invoice and account screenshot. If the X9 bundle was migrated, check whether ONE and the legacy record coexist during the paid term and whether separate utilities remain. Never cancel a similarly named backup or VPN record by guesswork.
A cancellation is complete only when the exact renewal is verifiably off
Evidence should answer four questions: which subscription, which account, which renewal date and what final state? A generic “preferences saved” banner can't do that. Reopen the page from a new session, verify the product and paid-through date, then store the screenshot or email with the invoice.
Don't use an expired card, deleted PayPal authorization or device removal as the primary control. Failed payment can trigger retries, grace behavior or account confusion; it isn't the same as cancelling the contractual renewal. Use the vendor or processor cancellation and keep its explicit confirmation.
After 24 hours, a high-value or disputed renewal deserves one more check. That's an editorial verification practice, not a vendor requirement. If the state reverted or the button failed, open a ticket before the renewal deadline with the first screenshot and exact time.
Intego's current direct-purchase refund window is 30 days
The July 10, 2026 refund policy says software purchased or renewed directly from the Intego website has a 30-day money-back guarantee. The customer must contact Intego Support within 30 days of the purchase or renewal and include relevant subscription information and a reason.
This isn't a promise for every transaction bearing an Intego-related descriptor. Third-party provider terms may differ, and business account terms can differ; business customers are directed to their sales account manager. Count from the actual charge/purchase date on the invoice, not from when the software was first installed.
If the charge is older than 30 days, cancel the next renewal and ask support, but don't represent the standard policy as guaranteeing approval. Statutory consumer rights may vary by location and can exist alongside the vendor policy. This guide is operational guidance, not a legal conclusion for every jurisdiction.
Build a refund ticket support can match to one charge
| Include | Why | Don't include publicly |
|---|---|---|
| Invoice/order number | Identifies the transaction | Full invoice PDF in a forum |
| Product, plan and device count | Separates ONE/X9/add-ons | Serial number or activation key |
| Charge date, amount and currency | Tests the 30-day window | Full card or PayPal details |
| Account email | Matches subscription owner | Public address/billing profile |
| Reason and requested outcome | Makes request unambiguous | Invented fraud allegation |
| Cancellation confirmation | Shows next renewal is handled | Unredacted account screenshot |
Use Intego's official support request linked from the policy. State plainly: “Please refund invoice X charged on date Y for product Z under the direct-purchase 30-day policy; I also turned off renewal and attached the confirmation.” One precise request is easier to reconcile than several chat messages with different account emails.
Intego ONE invoices can be downloaded from Payment History under Billing & Invoices. The current invoice guide says the list contains invoice number, transaction date, amount and a PDF download. Keep the file privately; send only what the official ticket needs.
“Processed within 14 days” isn't the same as “visible at the bank”
Intego says a qualifying refund request will be processed within 14 days. That's the vendor's processing statement, not a guaranteed card-posting date and not a refund success rate. Keep the support acknowledgement and wait for a processing confirmation that identifies the transaction.
If the merchant says the credit was processed but it isn't visible, ask for the refund date, amount, processor and any reference they can provide. Then ask the card issuer, PayPal or other provider about pending credit. Don't open duplicate refund requests every day, because multiple case numbers can make the timeline harder to follow.
After a refund is processed, Intego's policy says the user agrees to delete and uninstall all copies. Prepare the replacement protection route before removal. The dedicated uninstall spoke will own the exact technical cleanup; billing cancellation alone shouldn't be mixed with manual file deletion.
Third-party purchases follow the seller on the receipt
Intego's 30-day wording is limited to software purchased or renewed directly from its website. If the receipt names another marketplace, reseller or managed provider, use that seller's cancellation and refund system. The product brand doesn't override the seller of record.
Start with the receipt, not the app icon. Record the store account, order ID, purchase date, renewal status and applicable terms. If Intego Support can't see the transaction, that can be consistent with a third-party sale rather than evidence that the charge is fake.
The free VirusBarrier Scanner from the Mac App Store isn't the same subscription as a direct paid ONE plan. Avoid searching Apple subscriptions for a direct Intego website purchase, and avoid sending an Intego invoice to Apple as though Apple sold it. Match the channel first.
Recognize FastSpring, 2Checkout and the order email
Intego's payment-method article names FastSpring and 2Checkout as subscription processors, while the current auto-renewal article also names Stripe. Processor branding on the statement is therefore not enough by itself to call a charge unknown. Match date, amount and order email.
The current FastSpring explainer says the descriptor can appear as `FS* fsprg.com` and the order email comes from `[email protected]`. Search inbox and spam for that exact sender, then compare the order details to the account invoice.
For 2Checkout, the processor account can have separate credentials. Intego's payment-information guide documents the redirect and separate login. Recover that account securely rather than sharing credentials with a third-party “support” number from search results.
A wrong plan, seat count or product may need an exchange—not a blind cancellation
Intego's July 31 wrong-product guide separates upgrades, downgrades, device-count changes and an entirely different product. More seats or a higher tier can be upgraded in the account; a lower tier currently uses the cancel-and-rebuy route; a wrong platform/product needs sales help.
If the mistake is new and inside the refund window, state the desired outcome: refund and repurchase, or exchange to the correct product. Don't purchase a second plan before knowing whether the first will be credited unless uninterrupted protection justifies the temporary overlap.
Our pricing guide owns the tier and renewal comparison. This page owns proof and billing actions. Keeping those jobs separate prevents a “cheapest plan” answer from being mistaken for a policy promise.
ONE migration can leave separately billed legacy utilities behind
The current migration FAQ says ONE replaces the eligible core bundle but Privacy Protection, Personal Backup and other separately purchased products can continue. The article explicitly warns that those services remain separately billed. This is the first place to look when ONE is off but a familiar processor charge remains.
Open the legacy account and order emails, then match each utility to an invoice and renewal date. The VPN guide, Personal Backup guide and ContentBarrier guide explain what functionality would disappear if each is cancelled.
Don't cancel a backup or parental-control subscription until another workflow is ready. Billing cleanup and feature migration should happen together, but each cancellation still needs its own confirmation. A single ONE receipt can't prove the state of every legacy record.
Charged after cancellation: match the record before alleging a failure
| Evidence | Likely branch | Next action | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Same product/date as confirmation | Possible failed or late cancellation | Support ticket with both records | Deleting confirmation |
| Different product/add-on | Separate active subscription | Audit and cancel exact record | Assuming ONE covered it |
| `FS* fsprg.com` descriptor | Possible FastSpring Intego order | Match order email/invoice | Immediate false fraud claim |
| Duplicate same-day amounts | Possible duplicate/authorization issue | Check settled vs pending; merchant ticket | Counting a temporary hold as settled |
| No matching order or account | Unknown or unauthorized charge | Processor/issuer investigation promptly | Sharing card data in public |
Compare settled transactions, not only pending authorization holds. Then line up merchant descriptor, amount, currency, product, invoice and cancellation timestamp. If the same record renewed after a confirmed cutoff, send that compact chronology to support.
If the charge belongs to another utility, cancel that utility separately and request any eligible refund based on its own transaction date. If nothing matches and the charge is genuinely unrecognized, contact the issuer promptly. Accuracy matters: “I forgot to cancel” and “I never authorized this merchant” are different claims.
Use an issuer dispute for a genuine unresolved billing error, not as a shortcut
Start with the merchant when the issue is an ordinary refund request and preserve the ticket. If a duplicated, unauthorized or post-cancellation charge remains unresolved, use the card issuer or payment provider process under the account agreement and local law. Don't run a chargeback while hiding an active merchant refund.
For U.S. credit cards, the CFPB's billing-dispute guidance says to notify the issuer promptly and describes a written billing-error notice within 60 calendar days after the statement containing the charge. That's U.S.-specific and not a global Intego deadline. Other countries, debit cards and PayPal can follow different rules.
Provide the invoice, confirmation, support ticket, statement and concise explanation. Keep paying undisputed balances as required by the issuer. A dispute is an investigation, not a guaranteed refund, and it can affect the merchant entitlement before a replacement security plan is ready.
Plan protection before the subscription expires or the refund closes access
Turning off renewal normally lets the paid term continue. A processed refund can require uninstalling, and the actual entitlement end should be verified in the account or support reply. Don't disable a working antivirus weeks early merely because billing is cancelled.
Before removal, update macOS, confirm XProtect/Gatekeeper are enabled and decide whether another real-time product will replace Intego. Avoid two live scanners during the transition. The upcoming dedicated uninstall guide will cover the official removal path and post-restart checks.
Preserve scan/quarantine decisions before uninstalling, but never restore an unverified threat just to empty the app. Billing resolution shouldn't erase security evidence. After removal, test updates and basic network access, then check the next statement for any remaining legacy renewal.
Ten-step cancellation and refund workflow
- Identify the charge and seller. Open the invoice, order email and card or PayPal activity. Record the product, invoice or order number, charge date, amount, renewal date, merchant descriptor and whether the seller was Intego, FastSpring, 2Checkout, Stripe or another store without exposing a full card number.
- Inventory every Intego subscription. List Intego ONE, X9 bundles and separately billed Privacy Protection, Personal Backup or ContentBarrier records. Match each item to its own renewal date and payment processor so cancelling one subscription doesn't hide another future charge.
- Choose the correct outcome. If the renewal is still in the future, turn off auto-renewal. If a direct Intego purchase or renewal has posted within 30 days, turn off the next renewal and separately request a refund. If a third party sold it, use that seller's terms.
- Download proof before changing anything. Save the invoice PDF or order email, screenshot the Billing & Invoices or Manage Subscription state, and note the account email. Redact card, address, serial and private identifiers before sharing any screenshot outside the private support ticket.
- Turn off the exact renewal. For current ONE, use My Account, Billing & Invoices, Billing Info and Turn Off Auto-Renewal. For an X9 or processor-managed record, follow the subscription's Manage Subscription route. Read the confirmation before accepting it.
- Verify cancellation independently. Reload the account, confirm auto-renewal is off or the next charge is cancelled, save the confirmation and check that the affected product and date match the intended record. Don't treat uninstalling, removing a device or closing a browser tab as confirmation.
- Submit the refund request. For an eligible direct purchase or renewal, open the official Intego Support ticket within the 30-day policy window. Include the invoice/order number, product, charge date, account email, reason and the fact that future renewal was disabled; never send a full card number.
- Track the ticket and refund state. Keep the ticket ID, acknowledgement, promised next step and refund confirmation. Intego says a qualifying refund is processed within 14 days, but statement posting depends on the processor or issuer, so distinguish processed from visible.
- Escalate a genuine billing error safely. If the charge is duplicated, unauthorized, outside a documented cancellation or unresolved after the merchant route, contact the payment processor or issuer under the rules and deadlines for that account and jurisdiction. Preserve the merchant ticket and tell the truth about authorization.
- Protect the device before access ends. Confirm the paid-through date, install or enable the replacement protection plan, then uninstall Intego when the refund or expiry requires it. Recheck remaining legacy subscriptions and the next statement so billing and security both end in the intended state.
The order preserves leverage and prevents accidental gaps. It identifies the seller before a policy is quoted, preserves the invoice before account changes, turns off future billing before pursuing the past charge and leaves uninstall until protection is planned.
Finish by reopening every subscription record and comparing the next statement. A refund email isn't proof that a second add-on stopped; a cancellation screenshot isn't proof that the credit posted. Each desired outcome needs its own evidence.
Intego cancellation and refund FAQ
Does cancelling Intego give me a refund?
No. Turning off auto-renewal prevents the next renewal but doesn't reverse a purchase or renewal that already posted. Intego requires a separate support request for a refund, and the request must meet the applicable policy. Cancel the future charge and submit the refund ticket as two distinct actions when both are needed.
What is Intego's current money-back guarantee?
Intego's July 2026 policy says software purchased or renewed directly from its website has a 30-day money-back guarantee. The request must be submitted to Intego Support within 30 days of the purchase or renewal. Third-party and business terms can differ, so the invoice and seller control the route.
How long does an Intego refund take?
Intego says a qualifying refund request will be processed within 14 days. That statement doesn't promise when a bank, card issuer or PayPal balance will display the credit. Keep the processing confirmation and ask the processor or issuer about posting if the credit isn't visible.
How do I turn off Intego ONE auto-renewal?
Sign in to Intego My Account, open Billing & Invoices, find Billing Info, choose Turn Off Auto-Renewal and confirm the pop-up. Save the confirmation, reload the page and verify the changed state, renewal date and product. This preserves access through the paid term rather than immediately uninstalling the app.
How do I cancel an Intego X9 renewal?
Sign in to the account that owns the X9 subscription, open My Account and use the Subscription and Billing or Payment Method area to reach Manage Subscription. The record may redirect to FastSpring or 2Checkout, and 2Checkout can require separate credentials. Confirm the exact X9 product and renewal date before cancelling.
Will uninstalling Intego cancel the subscription?
No. Uninstalling removes software from a device; it doesn't prove that the billing record or auto-renewal changed. Likewise, deauthorizing or removing a device only manages a license seat. Cancel billing in the account or processor portal and preserve the confirmation before uninstalling.
Why am I still charged after cancelling Intego ONE?
First verify which subscription generated the charge. A legacy X9 bundle or separate Privacy Protection, Personal Backup or ContentBarrier purchase can keep billing after an ONE migration. Compare the descriptor, invoice, product and cancellation date; then send the proof through support if the same cancelled record renewed.
What does FS* fsprg.com mean on my statement?
Intego identifies FastSpring as an authorized payment processor and says its transactions can appear as `FS* fsprg.com`. FastSpring order confirmations come from `[email protected]`. Match the amount and date to the Intego invoice or order email before assuming the charge is unrelated or unauthorized.
Can I dispute an Intego charge with my bank?
A genuine unresolved billing error can be taken to the issuer or payment provider under the rules for the account and jurisdiction, but a dispute isn't the default refund request. Contact Intego first when appropriate, preserve the ticket and cancellation proof, and describe the transaction accurately. U.S. credit-card billing-error timelines aren't universal worldwide.
Do I lose protection immediately after cancelling?
Turning off auto-renewal normally leaves the subscription active through the paid term. A processed refund can require deleting and uninstalling the software, and migrated ONE guidance contains a narrow grace-period statement that shouldn't be generalized to every account. Confirm the actual paid-through state and prepare replacement protection before removal.
Bottom line: stop the next charge and resolve the past charge separately
For a future renewal, turn off auto-renewal and verify the exact record. For a direct Intego purchase or renewal inside the current 30-day policy, submit a separate refund ticket with the invoice and charge date. A third-party purchase follows the seller's rules, and uninstalling proves neither action.
Audit ONE, X9 and every legacy add-on, keep the confirmation and ticket, and distinguish merchant processing from bank posting. Use an issuer dispute only for a genuine unresolved billing error under the applicable rules. End with both outcomes intact: no unintended future charge and no unplanned protection gap.
