A busy scan, a service crash and an update loop can all look like “Panda is freezing my PC.” The safe route is to identify the signed process, path, status, time and trigger before changing protection. This guide keeps the evidence intact and puts reinstall near the end, where it belongs.

Quick answer: save work and record what Panda is doing before ending anything. Capture the signed process path, CPU and disk pattern, exact Panda/Windows Security state, current scan or update, time and recent change. Finish Windows and Panda updates, restart once if requested, then reproduce one trigger. Persistent idle load, a repeating crash or protection that stays off belongs in a controlled conflict test and support packet—not a whole-drive exclusion, registry cleaner or random “support” number.
The first five minutes are for evidence, not cleanup
Save open work first. If the computer still responds, do not hard-power it off and do not repeatedly end Panda processes. Choose the symptom before choosing the fix
The four useful branches are temporary load, protection off, an application/service crash, and a scan/update that stops progressing. Each produces different evidence and has a different next step. “Panda not working” is too broad to troubleshoot safely.

Finish only the branch that matches the evidence. A scan working through a large archive does not need a service repair. A service that crashes at idle is not fixed by scheduling scans at night. The point of the matrix is to keep one reversible change tied to one result.
Verify the process, path and signer before blaming Panda
Names such as PSANHost.exe and PSUAMain.exe appear in Panda documentation and old user reports, but packaging changes and a process name can be copied. Treat those names as leads, not identity. In Task Manager open the file location and Properties, then record the full path, digital publisher, version and activity.
Microsoft's current Process Explorer 17.12 adds owning-account, handle and loaded-DLL context when Task Manager is not enough. Download it only from Microsoft Sysinternals. The tool can show which process is active; it does not tell you that killing a protection service is safe.
Do not delete, rename or set a Panda service to Disabled because a forum post names the same executable. That can remove real-time inspection, create a restart loop and erase the sequence support needs. An unexpected path or invalid signature deserves a screenshot and support/security check. Read Panda and Windows Security status together
Panda's consumer protection-status help says an unprotected state can follow a pending restart after disinfection, a service incident, a disabled module or another recommendation. Read the exact message beside the status. A red tray icon is an alert, not a diagnosis.
Windows Security provides the second view. Microsoft says Defender Antivirus normally turns off automatically when another registered antivirus is installed and active, and returns after that product is removed. If Panda says protected while Windows says no provider is active, capture both states and the time.
Do not manually disable Defender and Panda together to silence warnings. Complete the requested Panda restart, install current Windows/Panda updates and check again. A scan is stuck only when work stops, not when one name stays visible
Panda's scan-results help documents progress, detailed reports and full reports. Watch the file count, elapsed time and disk activity. Large ZIP files, mail stores, virtual-machine images and dependency trees can hold one top-level filename on screen while thousands of items are being inspected.
If the same object stops progress repeatedly, cancel through Panda when possible. Save the exact path, update Panda and Windows, restart, then run a custom scan on the parent folder and progressively narrower subfolders. That is diagnostic narrowing. It is not permission to exclude the entire folder forever.

Old trials, VPN filters and partially removed endpoint agents can keep drivers or services active even when their main window is gone. Inventory Installed apps and Windows Security providers rather than assuming the desktop shortcut tells the full story.
Keep Panda installed while removing the clearly unwanted/expired product through that vendor's standard uninstaller or official removal tool. Restart, then verify which provider is active. Do not delete another vendor's folders or drivers manually. Defender is built into Windows and normally handles provider transition; it is not an expired trial to remove.

Add an exclusion only when one verified, trusted path reproduces the problem and the vendor cannot change the workload. Never exclude the system drive, user profile, Downloads, AppData, temporary folders or Panda's own directories to make a scan faster. Those are high-value locations for new and transient files. Windows freezing, failed updates, broken built-in apps or multiple unrelated service errors can point beyond Panda. Microsoft recommends installing current updates and restarting, then running DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth before sfc /scannow.
Run those commands from an elevated Command Prompt and let each finish. Save the final result. They repair Windows components; they do not repair a Panda account, replace Panda signatures or prove a security service was corrupt. A clean SFC result is useful negative evidence, not a guarantee that every driver or third-party application is healthy.
Do not paste registry edits, driver-delete commands or somebody else's FRST fixlist into an elevated shell. Machine-specific repair scripts can make Windows unbootable. If DISM or SFC fails, follow Microsoft's result-specific guidance before returning to the Panda branch.
Repair and reinstall belong after the reversible tests
