Avast Pricing in 2026: Free, Premium Security, Ultimate and Renewal

Avast can be free, $69.48 for the first year, or a collection of separate subscriptions inside one app. The useful comparison isn't the checkout badge; it's the exact protection job, device count and second-year bill.

$0 core antivirusFirst year vs renewalMerchant route matters

Quick answer: use Avast Free Antivirus when core protection is the whole job. The ten-device US offers we checked showed Avast Premium Security at $69.48 for the first year and $99.99 at renewal, while Avast Ultimate was $69.48 first year and $139.99 at renewal. Premium is the security upgrade; Ultimate only makes sense when you'd separately pay for its bundled privacy and maintenance apps. The new Avast One can hold several entitlements, so check every next-payment date, not only the product name on the dashboard.

Need a different Avast task? The complete Avast guide hub routes review, plans, Free versus Premium, setup, troubleshooting, privacy, features, billing and removal without mixing their steps.

Avast One changed the storefront, not the need to read each entitlement

The 2026 Avast One is a unified interface that starts with Free Antivirus and can activate paid apps inside the same experience. Avast’s current Avast One installation guide tells new users to install the hub, choose “Continue with free,” and manually activate paid apps when they own an eligible subscription. That's different from the old Avast One Essential, Silver, Gold and Platinum bundle descriptions still quoted by older comparison pages.

This is convenient until one orange dashboard is mistaken for one bill. Premium Security, SecureLine VPN, Cleanup Premium, AntiTrack, BreachGuard, Driver Updater and other services can have different entitlements and renewal dates. A tile that says “available” may mean included, trial, free tier or paid upgrade. Open the subscription detail and locate the merchant, protected device count, next payment and renewal state before assigning value.

The broader Avast review evaluates protection and trust. This page stays on the commercial question: what are you actually buying, what happens after the first year, and which action changes the bill.

Current Avast US prices: compare the same ten-device configuration

OptionDevicesFirst yearPublished renewalSecond-year changeBest fit
Avast Free Antivirus1$0$0$0Core antivirus without a subscription
Premium Security10$69.48$99.99+$30.51 / about 44%Security controls across a mixed-device household
Avast Ultimate10$69.48$139.99+$70.51 / about 101%People who will use the included VPN, Cleanup and AntiTrack

We captured those figures from the Avast US antivirus comparison on July 29, 2026. The same page also showed one-PC-plus-mobile configurations with different prices. Avast’s public discounts page could show $69.99 instead of $69.48 for the ten-device first year. That small discrepancy is a reminder that a search result or comparison page isn't the contract; the checkout for your region, term and device count is.

Taxes can change the total. Monthly equivalents such as “$5.79 per month” are often annual charges divided by 12, not a cancellable monthly subscription. Look for the billing interval beside the final amount. If the checkout offers two or three years, compare the total paid and the next renewal date rather than multiplying a promotional monthly badge.

Avast Free Antivirus: the best value when the job is antivirus

Avast Free Antivirus costs $0 and provides the real-time malware foundation, not a time-limited scanner. Current independent evidence is strong: Avast Free earned 18/18 in AV-TEST’s May–June 2026 Windows 11 cycle and protected against 99.3% of cases in AV-Comparatives’ February–May real-world test. Paying can add controls and services, but it doesn't turn an ineffective free engine into an effective one.

The cost is attention. Avast uses the free product to surface upgrades and other apps. Its official privacy and offers documentation says some free-product upgrade messaging is enabled by default and can't be disabled. A Smart Scan can also report privacy, driver or cleanup opportunities whose fix belongs to a paid product. Read the category: “performance issue” isn't the same as “malware found.”

Choose Free for one Windows PC when you prefer Avast’s controls and can distinguish protection events from commerce. Microsoft Defender remains the quieter $0 option with no separate installer or renewal. Our Avast Free versus Premium guide focuses on the protection boundary rather than the price table alone.

Avast Premium Security: pay for security controls, not a bigger badge

Premium Security is the direct paid-security tier. The ten-device US configuration we checked supported Windows, macOS, Android and iOS and was $69.48 for the first year, with a published $99.99 renewal. The one-PC configuration was cheaper and had its own renewal. That makes device inventory the first pricing decision: buying ten seats for one laptop isn't a discount.

The useful paid case is a household that wants Avast’s additional internet-threat and privacy controls under one subscription. Feature parity still varies by platform. Windows receives the broadest local controls, while mobile and iOS work within their operating-system limits. Don't count one feature ten times merely because the licence covers ten devices, and don't assume the plan includes every app visible in Avast One.

Premium’s second year in our snapshot was $30.51 more than the first, roughly 44%. That increase isn't automatically unfair; the introductory price is clearly promotional. It does mean the renewal price, not the orange discount, is the honest annual budget. If you only need the core engine, Free avoids the entire renewal decision.

Avast Ultimate: the first year is easy; the bundle value is the hard part

Avast Ultimate added Cleanup Premium, SecureLine VPN and AntiTrack to the security bundle on the current US comparison page. For ten devices it showed the same $69.48 first year as Premium Security, then a $139.99 renewal. The first-year parity makes Ultimate look obvious at checkout. The second year is where the decision becomes real.

At renewal, Ultimate was $40 more than Premium Security and $70.51 above its own observed first-year charge. Value the extras separately. Would you pay for the VPN if it didn't share a brand with the antivirus? Does Cleanup save enough time compared with Windows Storage Sense and manual startup management? Does AntiTrack solve a privacy need your browser already handles? Our Avast Cleanup Premium review finds convenience but little reason to expect miracle speed gains.

Ultimate is sensible when a multi-device household will actively use the bundled services and prefers one vendor. Skip it when the extras duplicate tools you already own, when the VPN doesn't fit the required locations or performance, or when a maintenance scan’s warnings created the desire to upgrade. A bundle is cheaper only when its components have independent value.

Separate Avast apps can turn one dashboard into subscription sprawl

The new Avast One makes Free Antivirus the foundation and offers other apps inside the same control surface. That improves discovery but weakens the old assumption that “Avast renewal” refers to one order. A user can have Premium Security bought from Avast, SecureLine VPN through an app store, Cleanup activated during a trial and a legacy entitlement attached to another email address.

Make an account inventory before upgrading or cancelling. Record the exact product, merchant, account email, order ID, device count, trial end, next payment, renewal amount and whether the entitlement is shared. Then compare that list with charges on the payment method. The current Avast Account FAQ explains where to find order history and invoices for direct purchases.

Avast Secure Browser and the new password manager also deserve independent evaluation. A free browser can be useful without justifying a paid antivirus tier, and a password vault should be judged by encryption, recovery, export and audit evidence. See our Secure Browser review and Avast Password Manager review before treating every orange tile as one package.

The first-year badge isn't the second-year cost

Renewal math for the ten-device US snapshot. GPT Image 2 editorial infographic, not an account screen. Prices, taxes and regional offers can change; verify the Next payment date and amount in your own account.

A two-year comparison is more honest than a first-year badge. Premium Security totals $169.47 across the observed first year and published second year before tax. The corresponding Ultimate arithmetic is $209.47 across the same window. Those are illustrations using the July 29 snapshot, not a guaranteed future offer or a claim that Avast will keep the same renewal price.

Do the same calculation for alternatives. Include the device count and any separate VPN, password-manager or cleanup subscription you'd otherwise buy. If a competitor is $20 cheaper but replaces nothing else, the saving is $20. If Ultimate replaces a VPN you already pay $60 for, its higher renewal may still reduce the household total. The right unit is the entire job, not the number of icons.

Avast can bill before the subscription anniversary

Avast’s current cancellation FAQ says the billing date for one-, two- and three-year subscriptions can be up to 35 days before the next subscription period starts. That means the anniversary printed on an old receipt may be too late for a no-charge decision. The Avast Account’s Next payment date is the operational deadline.

Cancel before that date if you don't want another term. A successful cancellation normally changes the subscription to an expiring state and leaves paid access available through the current period. Save the confirmation email and take a screenshot of the status and expiration date. Recheck the merchant if no cancel control appears: Apple, Google Play and resellers manage their own subscriptions.

Uninstalling doesn't cancel the bill. Removing a device from an account doesn't cancel it either. Conversely, cancelling renewal doesn't remove working protection today. Our dedicated Avast cancellation and refund guide keeps these account, refund and device-cleanup actions separate.

Free trials, cancellation and refunds are three separate events

A free trial that required a payment method can become a paid subscription on its final day. Avast says the trial must be cancelled before it ends if the buyer doesn't want the first charge. Don't rely on uninstalling the app or ignoring an email. Find the trial under the merchant’s subscription list and preserve the cancellation confirmation.

The current Avast refund guide, updated June 26, 2026, states that eligible consumer payments can receive a full refund when requested within 30 days. The direct guarantee covers purchases from the official Avast website, the Avast Windows or Mac app, and Google Play. Apple App Store and reseller purchases follow those merchants’ refund rules. Statutory rights can add other remedies depending on country.

Cancellation stops a future charge; a refund asks to reverse an eligible past charge. Don't assume one action triggers the other. Find the order ID, payment date, merchant and product, submit through the correct route, and save the case number. The refund option may appear only beside eligible orders.

Avast pricing and renewal FAQ

How much does Avast cost in 2026?

Avast Free Antivirus costs $0. In the US ten-device comparison we checked July 29, 2026, Avast Premium Security was $69.48 for the first year and showed a $99.99 renewal; Avast Ultimate was $69.48 initially and showed a $139.99 renewal. Avast also sells single-device and platform-specific configurations, and offers can change by page, region and session.

Is Avast Free Antivirus really free?

Yes, the core real-time antivirus can be used for $0. It's part of the current Avast One interface and may promote paid apps or report performance and privacy issues that require another product. A recommendation to upgrade isn't the same thing as a malware detection.

Why can two Avast pages show different first-year prices?

Avast uses regional, promotional, device-count and session-dependent offers. During our July 29 check, the main US comparison showed $69.48 for the ten-device plans while the public discounts page could show $69.99. The checkout tied to your exact configuration and its renewal disclosure control.

How much does Avast Premium Security renew for?

The ten-device US configuration we checked published a $99.99 annual renewal after a $69.48 first year. A one-PC configuration and other regions can use different prices. Save the order confirmation and next-payment screen rather than assuming this figure applies to every account.

How much does Avast Ultimate renew for?

The ten-device US configuration we checked published a $139.99 annual renewal after a $69.48 first year. That makes the second year $70.51 more than the observed introductory year, so value depends on whether you use the included VPN, Cleanup and AntiTrack services.

When does Avast charge for renewal?

Avast says the billing date for one-, two- and three-year subscriptions can be up to 35 days before the next subscription period begins. Use the Next payment date shown in the Avast Account as the operational deadline and cancel before that date if you don't want another charge.

Does canceling Avast give me a refund?

No. Canceling normally stops a future renewal while access continues to the end of the paid term. A refund is a separate request. Avast’s 30-day guarantee covers eligible consumer payments through its official website, the Windows or Mac app, and Google Play; App Store and reseller purchases follow their own route.

Does uninstalling Avast cancel the subscription?

No. Uninstalling removes software from a device but doesn't stop the commercial subscription. Cancel through the merchant that billed you, save confirmation, then uninstall or reassign the device separately.

Bottom line: budget for the renewal, not the discount

Avast Free is the cleanest value when core antivirus is the job. Premium Security is the paid security choice for a multi-device household. Ultimate can be good first-year value, but its $139.99 published renewal only works when the bundled VPN, Cleanup and AntiTrack replace services you'd buy anyway.

The new Avast One makes product access easier and subscription ownership less obvious. Before checkout, write down the merchant, term, device count, first charge, renewal amount and Next payment date. That five-line record prevents most of the unpleasant surprises a percentage-off badge is designed to hide.
