Does Intego cover Windows, Android, iPhone or iPad?

The four-platform answer in one table

Intego is still a Mac-first security company, even though it sells a separate Windows antivirus. The confusion starts when a checkout calls a Mac a “device,” while other brands use the same word for a PC, phone or tablet. Treat the product name and operating system as part of every seat.

This distinction controls both security and cost. Buying a five-device ONE plan for two Macs, two Android phones and an iPad leaves four paid Mac seats unused and all three mobile devices without an Intego app. Conversely, an all-Mac home shouldn't pay for a broad multi-platform plan merely because its box count looks larger.

Why “one device” doesn't mean one device of your choice

On the current Intego ONE purchase flow, the selectable 1, 3 and 5 device configurations refer to Macs. The Mac system requirements, ONE installers and suite modules surround those cards; there's no switch that converts one of those seats into Windows, Android or iOS. Our Intego pricing and renewal guide models those as Mac seats for the same reason.

A serial number proves entitlement to a particular product family. It doesn't prove that every app carrying the same company name accepts it. Before checkout, write the inventory as “three Macs, one Windows PC, two Android phones,” not “six devices.” Then map each line to an installable current product and its exact subscription.

This sounds pedantic until a renewal arrives. A family can own ONE Complete for five Macs, Intego Antivirus for Windows for three PCs and still have zero mobile coverage. Three cards under one company don't become one account-level security fabric unless the vendor explicitly documents shared seats and a unified dashboard.

What Intego ONE actually covers on a Mac

ONE is the current Mac subscription. Essential combines VirusBarrier real-time antivirus with NetBarrier application-aware network control. Complete adds the current ONE privacy and cleanup modules documented for the plan. A protected Mac can scan files that originated on Windows, including portable executable malware that wouldn't necessarily run on macOS. That's useful in a mixed office because it can stop a Mac from forwarding a dangerous attachment. It doesn't turn the Mac into a management console for a separate Windows endpoint, and it doesn't create a Windows license. Windows is a separate product, purchase and installer

Intego Antivirus for Windows is real, current and separately sold. Personal covers one PC, Family covers three and Extended covers five. A ONE owner who wants it must make another purchase or hold an eligible older entitlement that explicitly names Windows; assuming the Mac serial will activate it's the wrong starting point.

The Windows application has its own account and license workflow. Install it on the PC it will protect, update its definitions and confirm real-time protection locally. Deauthorizing a Mac through the ONE account doesn't magically release a Windows seat, and transferring a Windows license should follow the Windows product's own support path. This isn't a negative judgment about the Windows product. Separate licensing can be perfectly rational for a household that values NetBarrier on Macs and needs ordinary antivirus on one or two Intel/AMD PCs. The problem is only hidden complexity: two subscriptions, two feature sets and potentially two renewal dates.

What the Windows antivirus includes—and what it doesn't

The current Windows product and manual document a conventional endpoint stack: real-time file protection, cloud lookups, a behavior-based Prevention Engine, Web Shield, potentially unwanted application detection, quick and complete scans, custom and scheduled scans, quarantine, reports, exclusions, archive scanning and a context-menu scan. Those are the claims we can safely attach to the Windows license.

A company footer may mention firewall, VPN, cleaner or backup products without promising them in the Windows subscription above it. Feature attribution requires an exact current plan or manual. If firewall or VPN is a buying requirement, verify the named Windows module at checkout instead of interpreting a site-wide navigation label as entitlement.

Windows pricing: another renewal ladder, not an add-on seat

The official US rendering checked August 8 showed the same 1/3/5 progression as ONE, but for PCs: Personal at $39.99 for the first year and $49.99 at annual renewal, Family at $54.99 then $66.99, and Extended at $69.99 then $84.99. The direct purchase advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Those dollars are a dated US snapshot, not a universal quote. The same page rendered euro prices from our audit location, so currency, tax and campaign can change the checkout. Save the cart's renewal line and seller before paying. An app-store or reseller purchase may have a different refund and cancellation route from a direct Intego purchase.

For a mixed household, add the Mac and Windows totals before comparing competitors. Three Macs on ONE Essential plus three Windows PCs on Family creates two $54.99 first payments and two $66.99 published renewals: $109.98 in year one and $133.98 at the displayed year-two rates, before any phone solution. That's the honest comparison against one six- or ten-device multi-platform suite.

Windows requirements: installer support isn't OS safety

Intego's current system-requirements page says Windows 7 or later, an Intel or AMD PC or compatible virtual machine, 500 MB of disk and internet access. The product page also states 2 GB RAM. ARM processors aren't supported, which excludes current Snapdragon-style Windows-on-ARM machines unless a future Intego document explicitly changes that boundary.

Don't interpret Windows 7 compatibility as a recommendation. Microsoft ended Windows 7 support on January 14, 2020. Windows 10 Home and Pro reached end of support on October 14, 2025; eligible Extended Security Updates are a temporary bridge, not a permanent platform strategy.

An antivirus can inspect malicious files and behavior, but it can't back-port every operating-system security fix. Use a Microsoft-supported release whenever hardware permits, keep browser and firmware updates current, and treat an old OS as a separate risk decision. The latest public Windows result—and its current limit

The newest product-specific independent report we found is Virus Bulletin's October 2025 Intego AV report. Intego AV 3.0.0.1 on Windows 11 identified 1,886 of 1,954 prevalent Windows PE malware files, or 96.52%, and missed 68. It produced zero false alarms across 99,998 clean files, passed the test and received Grade B.

VB100 classifies static Windows executable files. It doesn't execute the threats, measure phishing, ransomware behavior, Web Shield efficacy, exploit resistance or performance. More importantly, the current Virus Bulletin archive places Intego AV under not currently certified, with status updated January 2, 2026. Calling the product currently VB100-certified would therefore be wrong.

We also found no current Intego entry in the checked AV-TEST Windows consumer field or AV-Comparatives consumer program. Absence is an evidence gap, not a failed result. It lowers our confidence relative to products with current repeated cohorts; it doesn't justify inventing a failure score.

Windows malware on a Mac isn't Windows protection

Mac security reports often include a “Windows malware” set. The purpose is to test whether a Mac product catches files that could be passed to Windows colleagues, shared drives or virtual machines. A 100% result on that set means the scanner recognized those stored samples during that Mac test.

It doesn't mean VirusBarrier monitors a different PC's memory, browser, PowerShell, registry, services or live ransomware behavior. It can't enforce Web Shield or quarantine decisions on a Windows computer where it isn't installed. A Windows virtual machine also needs protection appropriate to its running OS; scanning the VM bundle as a Mac file isn't equivalent to an agent inside the guest.

Use the separate Windows product or another supported Windows tool on each running PC. If a Mac only exchanges Office files with a managed company PC, the employer's endpoint stack remains responsible for the PC. This distinction also prevents a misleading claim in our main Intego review: cross-platform file detection is a useful Mac capability, not cross-platform entitlement.

Android coverage: Intego's exact current answer is no

Intego's current Android support answer says it has no coverage options for Android devices and supports Mac and Windows computers. There's no legitimate Intego Android installer, no ONE seat that activates a phone and no documented Android-through-Mac scan comparable to the iOS cable workflow.

Don't search APK mirrors for a missing app. An “Intego Android antivirus” file outside a verified official listing would create the very sideloading risk a security product is supposed to reduce. Old affiliate tables and scraped app catalogs don't override the vendor's current support statement.

An Android phone can still be part of an Intego household; it's simply protected by other layers. Count it as uncovered when calculating subscriptions. What to use on Android if the Macs stay with Intego

Google Play Protect checks apps when they're installed and periodically scans the device. Keep it enabled, apply Android security updates, use the Play Store or another carefully verified source, review app permissions and remove apps you no longer trust. Those controls are the baseline, whether or not you buy a second security app.

A paid Android product can add malicious-link screening, scam warnings, privacy reports, breach monitoring or a dashboard shared with desktop seats. It can't receive unrestricted access to everything on the phone, and its feature list differs from Windows. Judge the Android client by its mobile-specific jobs rather than expecting a desktop antivirus transplanted to a smaller screen.

If the family wants one dashboard across Mac, Windows, Android and iOS, a genuine multi-platform suite is normally cleaner than ONE plus Intego Windows plus a third Android subscription. Norton, Bitdefender, ESET and several alternatives can sell cross-platform seats, but their exact firewall, backup, VPN and mobile features still vary. One license is administrative simplicity, not automatic feature parity.

iPhone and iPad: a connected scan from the Mac

Intego software can't be installed directly on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. The current exception is a tethered workflow: Intego ONE 1.2.1 or later can custom-scan a USB-connected iOS device from a supported Mac. The device appears as a location in Custom Scan after connection and trust approval.

Intego says the Mac can scan any number of iOS devices you own, regardless of the Mac license count. That sounds generous because it isn't issuing phone seats. Each device must come to the Mac for an occasional inspection; there's no resident engine continuously watching downloads, messages, browser activity or app behavior after the cable is removed.

Use this workflow when an iPhone or iPad regularly exchanges files with the Mac, a suspicious attachment needs another look or support directs you to it. Don't market it as everyday iOS protection. What the connected iOS scan can—and can't—do

The Mac app can inspect accessible material and alert you to a possible threat. Intego explicitly says it can't directly remediate a detected item on the iOS device. The owner must identify the affected app or content, resolve it on the phone or tablet, update software and use Apple support or an erase-and-restore path when warranted.

The scan isn't real-time, always-on, call or SMS filtering, web protection, VPN, identity monitoring, jailbreak detection or account-recovery service. It also doesn't give a Mac scanner unrestricted access to every app's private data or the system partition. Apple's platform security guide describes mandatory code signing, centralized distribution controls and strict sandboxing that separate apps and their data.

That architecture is why “antivirus for iPhone” must be read feature by feature. A reputable mobile security app may filter harmful links, check breach data or protect a VPN connection, but it doesn't crawl every other app like a Windows scanner. Intego's cable scan is a narrow, honestly documented tool; it becomes misleading only when a review inflates it into an installable iOS suite.

Two historical traps: VirusBarrier iOS and Dual Protection

VirusBarrier iOS was once a real App Store product. In March 2015 Intego explained that Apple had removed the antivirus category, so the app was no longer available for sale or app updates. Old screenshots, PDFs and indexed review pages remain historical evidence, not a current download recommendation.

Dual Protection is the Windows trap. Some older X9 purchases bundled Mac and Windows entitlements, and those pages can survive in search or an old invoice. The current ONE upgrade FAQ says X9 Dual Protection subscriptions aren't supported in ONE. An existing customer can't assume an upgrade preserves the old Windows right.

Preserve the exact invoice and serial before changing an old subscription. Ask what the account currently authorizes, not what a 2018 bundle page promised. If maintaining a historical X9 entitlement blocks a clean ONE migration, compare the total cost and support burden with two current subscriptions or a new multi-platform plan.

Mixed-household math: count operating systems before seats

Start with a physical inventory. Separate Intel/Apple-silicon Macs, Intel/AMD Windows PCs, ARM Windows devices, Android phones/tablets and iPhones/iPads. Then mark which endpoints need resident protection, which only need platform baselines and whether anyone needs one parent dashboard, VPN or family controls.

For two Macs and one Intel Windows PC, ONE Essential for three Macs plus Windows Personal leaves one spare Mac seat but covers the active computers. For two Macs, two Windows PCs, two Android phones and an iPad, the same approach needs ONE for three Macs, Windows Family for three PCs and another mobile solution; the iPad's cable scan is optional help, not resident coverage. An ARM Windows laptop remains outside the documented Intego Windows boundary.

Price year one, the published year-two renewals and the cost of missing jobs. If leaving Intego loses NetBarrier, include the value and complexity of replacing application-aware network rules on each Mac. If one multi-platform alternative bundles a VPN you'd otherwise buy, include that saving—but remove Windows-only backup or parental-control features from the Mac side of the comparison.

When two Intego subscriptions still make sense

The split is defensible when Macs are the primary machines, NetBarrier matters and the Windows count is small and stable. ONE Essential preserves the Mac-specific security workflow, while Windows Personal or Family supplies a resident agent to compatible PCs. Each product does one documented job instead of pretending feature parity.

It's also reasonable when mobile devices already use strong native controls, a workplace-managed solution or a separate family tool. Not every household needs to force every device into one vendor. A technically comfortable owner may prefer two transparent renewals over a broad suite packed with features that disappear by platform.

The arrangement becomes poor when administration is the problem. A phone-heavy family seeking unified scam protection, one renewal, remote status and simple seat transfers will gain little from three vendors and cable scans. Compare Intego versus Norton, Intego versus Bitdefender and the current Mac shortlist by the exact household rather than by brand familiarity. If the friction is local rather than structural, run the high-CPU and stuck-scan fixes before changing platforms.

Decision map: which route fits your devices?

The map below separates installable protection from an occasional scan. Green means the product installs and protects that desktop under the right license. Red means Intego has no product. Amber means the mobile device is connected to a Mac for a limited scan whose findings must be handled on-device.

Buy ONE for the number of Macs. Add Intego Antivirus for Windows only for supported Intel/AMD PCs. Count Android as uncovered. Count iPhone and iPad as native-platform devices that can receive an optional Mac-assisted inspection, not as Intego seats. What mixed-device owners report—and how we use it

A recent mixed-family security discussion illustrates the practical demand: people want Windows, Mac, Android and iOS under one manageable account. The useful signal is the management problem—different features, confusing seats and renewals—not a representative vote for one winner.

Community reports should shape a trial checklist. Verify that every device appears in the dashboard, that link filtering works in the browsers the family actually uses, that local printers survive VPN or firewall changes and that an old machine can release a seat. They can't establish a detection percentage, a universal CPU impact or a current entitlement when official documentation says otherwise.

We don't use named-user quotes, vote counts or self-reported malware tests as proof. Official product and support pages define what can be bought and installed. Independent labs define the tested result and denominator. Community experience tells us where a technically correct product map can still be frustrating to own.
