Malwarebytes Pricing in 2026: Standard, Plus, Ultimate and Renewal
The price card tells you what Malwarebytes costs today. It doesn't tell you whether three seats fit, whether the VPN replaces anything, or what the next renewal email will ask you to pay.
Quick answer: On the US pricing page captured July 29, 2026, the three-device individual plans showed Standard at $59.99 a year, Plus at $79.99, and Ultimate at a promotional $139.99 with $279.99 crossed out. Ten-device family plans showed $119.99, $149.99 and a promotional $199.99 respectively. Standard is the clean paid-security choice; Plus earns its extra $20 only if you'll use the VPN; Ultimate should be judged as an identity-and-data-removal service rather than a stronger antivirus engine. Treat every number as a dated acquisition quote. Malwarebytes sends the exact annual renewal amount 30 days before the charge.
Current Malwarebytes prices: six cards, not one universal cost
Malwarebytes now organizes personal subscriptions around Standard, Plus and Ultimate, with separate individual and family cards. We captured the official US Malwarebytes pricing page on July 29, 2026. The page itself had been modified on July 20. That date matters because old reviews still describe Premium and Premium + Privacy, quote different seat counts, or mix consumer protection with Malwarebytes for Teams.
The current storefront snapshot is below. These were annual prices displayed to a new visitor, before tax and without an account-specific offer. The two Ultimate prices were promotional: the site showed a 50% saving and a crossed-out comparison figure. Nothing on that card guarantees that the crossed-out number will be next year's renewal, so the table labels it honestly.
| Plan | Who and what it covers | Displayed annual price | Crossed-out comparison price | Main addition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Individual, 3 devices | $59.99 | None shown | Paid real-time device security and Browser Guard |
| Plus | Individual, 3 devices | $79.99 | None shown | Standard plus unlimited Privacy VPN |
| Ultimate | 1 adult, 3 devices | $139.99 promotional | $279.99 | Plus, identity protection and data removal |
| Standard Family | 10 devices | $119.99 | None shown | Household device security |
| Plus Family | 10 devices | $149.99 | None shown | Household security and VPN |
| Ultimate Family | 2 adults, up to 10 children, 10 devices | $199.99 promotional | $399.99 | Family identity layer and data removal |
There's also a one-device Standard route. A current official Malwarebytes comparison page lists Standard from $44.99 a year and Ultimate from $119.99, while the main pricing page emphasizes the three-device individual cards. The correct conclusion isn't that one page is false. Malwarebytes varies configuration and campaign by landing path, device count and account. Record the final cart that matches the people and devices you selected.
Our full Malwarebytes review decides whether the protection itself is competitive. This guide keeps a narrower promise: translate the pricing page into an actual household decision and make the renewal mechanics visible before the card is charged.
A Malwarebytes “starting price” is incomplete without four qualifiers
A useful quote needs the market, term, device count and product bundle. “Malwarebytes costs $44.99” can describe a one-device Standard offer. It can't price three computers, a family, the VPN or identity protection. Taxes and app-store pricing can add another difference. Even the same buyer may see a personalized upgrade after signing into MyAccount.
The changing card structure also explains why reputable reviews disagree. Tom's Guide's May 2026 Malwarebytes cost section records a $44 individual starting point. Security.org's March 2026 pricing guide lists one- and three-device Standard configurations and older three- and five-device Plus choices. Those captures can be true for their dates and still fail as today's checkout quote.
Malwarebytes formally simplified its household packages in October 2025. The company's plan relaunch announcement says individual offers can cover one, three or five devices, while family offers cover larger device groups and people. That person-versus-device distinction becomes critical in Ultimate: antivirus protects endpoints; identity services protect enrolled humans.
Save a PDF or screenshot of the final order summary, not only the first landing page. It should show the exact plan, seats, term, seller, amount, tax, renewal setting and account email. That record turns next year's reminder into a comparison instead of a surprise.
Standard is the clean paid-security tier
Standard is the easiest tier to understand. It includes paid Malwarebytes device protection and Browser Guard without asking you to value a VPN or an identity package. On the three-device card captured July 29, that cost $59.99 a year, or almost $20 per occupied device when all three seats are used. A one-device offer can cost less in total but more per protected endpoint.
The paid boundary is real. Malwarebytes' July 28, 2026 Free versus Paid feature table puts real-time protection, scheduled Threat Scans, web protection and the core malware-protection layer on the paid side for Windows and Mac. Platform differences remain: Windows has exploit and ransomware modules that aren't mirrored identically on every operating system.
Standard makes sense when the buyer wants Malwarebytes running as primary, automatic protection and will use two or three seats. It's less compelling as a reflex purchase after one cleanup scan. A user who needs occasional second-opinion removal can keep the free scanner and compare no-cost options in our free antivirus guide. A person replacing Microsoft Defender should first read the current Malwarebytes versus Windows Defender comparison, because the subscription needs to solve a measurable gap.
Don't infer that Standard is a weaker edition of the malware engine merely because it sits first. The higher tiers primarily add adjacent services. If device security is the job, Standard is the reference price against which every bundle must justify itself.
Plus costs $20 more for the VPN in the checked configuration
Plus adds Malwarebytes Privacy VPN to Standard. In the three-device snapshot it moved the annual bill from $59.99 to $79.99: a $20 bundle premium, or about $6.67 per occupied device. That's inexpensive when all three people or devices will use it and close to wasted money when the VPN remains switched off.
The official Premium Security comparison describes an unlimited WireGuard VPN, ad and tracking blocking, and a no-logging claim for network data. Those bullets establish the entitlement, not the quality. Server reach, streaming access, kill-switch behavior, privacy jurisdiction, connection reliability and independent audits still determine whether it can replace a dedicated service.
Price the bundle by replacement cost. If you already pay for a VPN and Malwarebytes Privacy does the same job well enough, Plus can reduce two renewals to one. If an employer provides a VPN, you use Apple's Private Relay only for Safari, or you need advanced location and router support, the $20 saving story changes. Don't count a feature's list value twice.
Plus is therefore the most situational plan, not the automatic “best value.” Compare its security side with Bitdefender versus Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes versus Norton, then compare the VPN as a VPN. A bundled icon isn't a verdict.
Ultimate is an identity decision, not stronger antivirus
Ultimate includes the Standard security layer and VPN, then adds identity monitoring, recovery help, credit-related services, insurance and Personal Data Remover where available. The checked individual card covered one adult and three devices for a promotional $139.99. The crossed-out $279.99 looks dramatic, but it's a comparison price, not a documented renewal promise.
The official identity protection page explains the important unit mismatch. Identity services protect enrolled people, not laptop seats. It also describes single- or three-bureau credit reporting depending on the plan, monitoring and recovery services, and insurance subject to policy terms. The Personal Data Remover page says that broker-removal service is currently US-only.
That makes antivirus per-device arithmetic incomplete. Ultimate costs about $46.67 per device if three seats are occupied, but most of the price difference pays for one adult's identity layer. The right comparison is the cost and coverage of identity services you'd otherwise buy, not the price of another antivirus seat.
Read the insurance summary, enrollment requirements, monitored bureaus, recovery limits and exclusions before assigning the bundle a dollar value. “Up to” insurance isn't cash held for every incident, and monitoring can't prevent a thief from using data. Ultimate is defensible for a US adult who wants the service, completes enrollment and would pay for it separately. It's hard to justify for someone outside the supported market or interested only in malware detection.
Family pricing improves seat economics only when the seats are occupied
The family cards cover ten devices. In the July 29 snapshot, Standard Family cost $119.99, Plus Family $149.99 and promotional Ultimate Family $199.99. With all ten seats active, that's roughly $12, $15 and $20 per device per year. Those figures look better than the individual equivalents, but empty seats have no protective or financial value.
| Family plan | Annual price captured | If 10 devices use it | If 6 devices use it | What must justify the tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Family | $119.99 | About $12/device | About $20/device | Automatic security on a mixed household fleet |
| Plus Family | $149.99 | About $15/device | About $25/device | The household actually uses the VPN |
| Ultimate Family | $199.99 promotional | About $20/device | About $33.33/device | Two adults enroll in identity services and child monitoring is useful |
Ultimate Family introduces another denominator: the current card says two adults, up to ten children and ten devices. A family can have more people than device seats, and child monitoring isn't the same thing as full adult credit reports. Read the enrollment screen rather than assuming every name receives identical coverage.
Count the actual Windows PCs, Macs, Android phones, iPhones and tablets, then note what each platform can do. The product page itself says features vary by operating system. A ten-seat bundle isn't ten copies of the deepest Windows feature set. If only five endpoints need protection, compare a smaller individual configuration before treating Family as a bargain.
Households considering alternatives can use the existing Malwarebytes versus Avast, Kaspersky versus Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes versus McAfee pages. The meaningful comparison holds device count and renewal term constant instead of lining up unrelated starting prices.
Malwarebytes Free is cleanup; paid plans add prevention
Malwarebytes Free remains useful, but it isn't simply Standard with a smaller invoice. The current official feature table describes Free as a way to scan and clean a device after something has happened. Paid protection adds ongoing real-time layers, scheduled Threat Scans and web controls. That difference should determine the purchase, not an upgrade banner after a scan.
A practical split is simple. Keep Free when you want an on-demand second opinion and already have maintained real-time protection. Buy Standard when Malwarebytes will be the automatic protection layer. Move to Plus or Ultimate only when the added service has its own business case. The existing Malwarebytes AdwCleaner review covers a narrower cleanup tool; it isn't a substitute for paid real-time protection either.
People sometimes describe Malwarebytes as a companion to another antivirus. That can work, but two real-time products can also overlap, duplicate notifications or complicate troubleshooting. Our review explains the current primary-antivirus case. For pricing, the rule is that a subscription shouldn't be paid merely to preserve a scanner you use twice a year.
The exact renewal price arrives 30 days before the charge
Malwarebytes' June 26, 2026 auto-renewal instructions say Online Store subscriptions have automatic renewal enabled by default. For annual plans, Malwarebytes sends a reminder 30 days before the renewal date, and that email includes the amount to be charged. That account-specific number outranks an old review, a launch discount and the crossed-out figure on today's acquisition page.
Budgeting still needs a placeholder. Use the current non-promotional price when one is clearly shown, but don't invent a second-year bill when it isn't. For Ultimate, record both numbers as a dated marketing snapshot and set a reminder roughly 40 days before expiration. When the official 30-day notice arrives, compare its plan, seats and amount with the original receipt.
One current official early-renewal example showed a three-device subscription renewing at $59.99, with unused time credited pro rata when an extra seat was added. That proves Malwarebytes can align terms and credit remaining time; it doesn't establish every customer's price. Account age, legacy product, device band, currency and offer can produce another amount.
Manual renewal has a trap. Malwarebytes' July 9 manual-renewal guide says following an in-app, email or account renewal prompt enables automatic renewal again. Check the toggle after paying manually instead of assuming the previous setting survived.
Purchases from Apple or Google have a different billing owner. Cancel or change those subscriptions in the respective store. Turning off a direct-store renewal leaves protection active until expiration; it doesn't immediately convert the app to Free.
Adding a seat is easy; reducing the bill can require a replacement plan
Malwarebytes lets direct customers add devices or upgrade through MyAccount. Its June 30 upgrade instructions say the account shows available plans, total device count and the adjusted price. App-store purchases must be upgraded through the mobile store instead.
Reducing coverage is less elegant. The March 2026 device-reduction article says direct plans use one-, three-, five- or ten-device price bands. To remove devices or a bundle product, the customer may need to turn off automatic renewal, buy the correctly sized new subscription, deactivate the old entitlement and activate the replacement.
Deactivation isn't a billing change. Malwarebytes' current device guide says it frees a seat and doesn't uninstall the application or cancel the subscription. That's useful when replacing a laptop, but it won't lower a ten-device renewal to a three-device price.
Before upgrading mid-term, save the pro-rata calculation. Before downgrading, make sure the replacement is active on every protected endpoint and that only the old subscription is set to expire. Two overlapping subscriptions create the kind of duplicate renewal problem that no antivirus feature can solve.
Cancellation, refund, deactivation and uninstall are four different jobs
Turning off auto-renewal prevents the next eligible charge and leaves the current term active. A refund asks the merchant to reverse an eligible transaction. Deactivation frees a seat. Uninstall removes files from a device. None of those actions reliably completes the other three, so use the verb that matches the outcome you need.
Malwarebytes advertises a 60-day money-back guarantee on annual personal plans. Its April 2026 personal-products refund page tells direct purchasers to contact Support to confirm eligibility and points Apple and Google customers to those stores' policies. Don't promise yourself a direct-store outcome when the App Store descriptor owns the charge.
Keep the account email, order number, transaction date, amount, plan, last four card digits or PayPal reference, and any cancellation confirmation. Contact the official Help Center from a browser you opened yourself. Malwarebytes Support's pinned Reddit guidance says paid signed-in users can reach live chat and other users can create a ticket; that's a route to a case, not evidence that every disputed renewal receives the same decision.
If the subscription is no longer wanted, verify the renewal toggle after the refund case closes. If the software is also being removed, handle that separately. Our broader guide to an expiring antivirus explains how to avoid leaving a protection gap while one subscription ends and another begins.
A large “Malwarebytes renewal” invoice may not be from Malwarebytes
Renewal confusion is now a security issue. On June 24, 2026, Malwarebytes published a warning about fake Malwarebytes renewal notices. The examples use an alarming multi-hundred-dollar charge, invented reference numbers and a callback phone number. The caller then pushes a refund or remote-support story.
Don't call the number in the invoice, click its cancellation button, disclose a one-time code or install remote-control software. Open `my.malwarebytes.com` by typing the address yourself, then compare the plan and renewal amount. If the account shows nothing, use the Help Center reached from the official domain. A legitimate-looking logo and an amount close to a real Ultimate price aren't authentication.
This warning belongs on a pricing page because a buyer needs a safe verification habit before the first renewal. It also explains why search results for “Malwarebytes phone number refund” are risky: sponsored and fake support pages can intercept someone already worried about a charge. The same prevention steps appear in our scam-protection guide, but the account record remains the authority for this specific bill.
Which Malwarebytes plan should you choose?
Choose Free when you need an on-demand cleanup and already have trustworthy real-time protection. Don't pay simply because a one-time scan found tracking cookies or potentially unwanted software; read what was detected and decide whether ongoing Malwarebytes prevention solves a repeated problem.
Choose Standard when Malwarebytes will be your automatic security layer and the selected device band is mostly occupied. It's the cleanest comparison because every dollar pays for security and Browser Guard rather than a bundle you may ignore.
Choose Plus when its VPN replaces a service you'd otherwise buy and works for the locations, devices and privacy features you need. In the checked three-device card, the incremental cost was $20 a year. That's good bundle economics only when the VPN is actually used.
Choose Ultimate when an eligible US adult wants identity monitoring, recovery help, policy-backed insurance and data-broker removal, completes enrollment, and understands the coverage limits. Judge it against other identity products. Don't buy it under the assumption that $139.99 purchases a fundamentally stronger malware engine than Standard.
Choose a Family card when six to ten household devices need the same account and the person-level coverage fits. Count endpoints and enrolled adults before dividing the price. For a smaller household, compare the one-, three- and five-device routes at checkout.
Whichever plan wins, save the receipt and set a reminder 40 days before expiration. The final decision is repeated at renewal: read the 30-day amount, count the devices still in use, and ask which bundled service would be missed if it disappeared. That produces a better answer than chasing the largest percentage badge.
Malwarebytes pricing and renewal FAQ
How much does Malwarebytes cost in 2026?
In the official US storefront captured July 29, 2026, three-device individual plans showed Standard at $59.99 a year, Plus at $79.99, and Ultimate at a promotional $139.99 with $279.99 crossed out. Ten-device family plans showed $119.99, $149.99 and a promotional $199.99. One- and five-device configurations and other campaigns can show different prices, so confirm the final checkout.
What is the difference between Malwarebytes Standard, Plus and Ultimate?
Standard is the paid device-security tier and includes Browser Guard. Plus adds unlimited Privacy VPN. Ultimate adds identity monitoring and recovery, credit-related services, insurance and Personal Data Remover where available. The higher tier doesn't simply mean a different or stronger malware-detection engine.
Is Malwarebytes Plus worth the extra cost?
Plus is worth considering when you need an uncomplicated WireGuard VPN on the same covered devices and would otherwise pay for one. If you already have a VPN, need specialist streaming or privacy features, or rarely use public networks, the bundle may duplicate an existing service and Standard is the cleaner purchase.
Is the crossed-out Ultimate price the guaranteed renewal price?
No. It's a comparison price shown beside the current promotion, not a promise of the next bill. Malwarebytes says annual subscribers receive a reminder 30 days before renewal and that the message includes the amount to be charged. Use that account-specific notice as the renewal quote.
Does Malwarebytes renew automatically?
Subscriptions purchased from the Malwarebytes Online Store have auto-renewal enabled by default. Annual customers receive a reminder 30 days before expiration. A subscription bought through Apple or Google must be managed in that store, and manually renewing a direct subscription turns automatic renewal back on.
Can I reduce the number of devices on a Malwarebytes subscription?
Yes, but Malwarebytes says reducing devices or removing a bundle product can require turning off renewal and purchasing the appropriate replacement plan. Direct subscriptions use the account portal; Apple and Google purchases follow their store. Deactivating a device frees a seat but doesn't change the billed plan.
Does Malwarebytes have a money-back guarantee?
Malwarebytes advertises a 60-day money-back guarantee on annual personal plans. Its detailed refund page tells direct purchasers to contact Support to confirm eligibility and says Apple App Store and Google Play orders follow those stores' refund policies and restrictions. Keep the order number and use the merchant that actually charged you.
Does uninstalling Malwarebytes cancel the subscription?
No. Uninstalling removes the app, deactivating frees a device seat, turning off auto-renewal prevents a future direct-store charge, and requesting a refund asks the merchant to reverse an eligible transaction. Complete the billing action separately and save the confirmation.
How can I identify a fake Malwarebytes renewal invoice?
Open my.malwarebytes.com directly and compare the subscription and renewal amount there. Don't call a phone number, use a payment link, share a verification code or allow remote access because an unsolicited invoice tells you to. Malwarebytes published a June 2026 warning about exactly this callback-and-refund scam pattern.
