Current AVG US prices: compare the same device count

AVG’s store mixes a permanent free product with discounted annual subscriptions. That makes the orange first-year number useful for checkout but weak for budgeting. On July 23, 2026, the official AVG US store showed Internet Security for 10 devices at $59.88 for the first year and a $99.99 annual renewal. Ultimate for 10 devices showed the same $59.88 first year and a $149.99 renewal.

Those figures are a dated snapshot, not a promise for every visitor. Region, currency, tax, term, device count and session-specific promotion can change the checkout. A “$4.99 per month” badge may simply divide an annual charge by 12; it doesn't necessarily mean you can pay month to month. Read the billing interval and renewal disclosure beside the final total.

The fair comparison also holds the device count steady. A ten-device plan isn't automatically a bargain for one laptop. Count the Windows PCs, Macs, Android phones and iPhones that will actually use the entitlement, then check the feature list for each platform. Ten seats don't create ten identical copies of the Windows product.

AVG AntiVirus Free is a complete core product, not an expiring trial

AVG Free supplies real-time file, behavior, web and email defenses, on-demand scans, quarantine and network inspection. The current independent record is strong: AVG AntiVirus Free 26.4 and 26.5 received 6/6 in protection, performance and usability in AV-TEST’s current Windows results. AV-Comparatives measured 99.3% real-world protection across 400 cases from February through May 2026.

That evidence matters because it prevents a common pricing mistake: paid doesn't mean the free engine is intentionally weak. Internet Security adds surrounding controls, and Ultimate adds separate services. The free product can still be the sensible endpoint when the user maintains Windows, browser updates, backups, unique passwords and multifactor authentication.

The tradeoff is attention. AVG uses the free dashboard to promote upgrades and other products. A Smart Scan can separate actual malware from performance, privacy or driver findings whose proposed fix belongs to a paid utility. Read the category and evidence before paying. “We found performance issues” isn't the same event as a named malicious file being quarantined.

AVG says Free activates automatically after installation but may prompt for free reactivation after 12 months. Its official Free activation guide tells users to choose “Continue with free” or “Select.” A renewal-looking screen therefore doesn't prove that a payment is required. AVG Internet Security earns its price through specific controls

Internet Security keeps the free protection foundation and adds features aimed at remote access, browser data, webcams, sensitive files, fake sites and enhanced firewall decisions. AVG’s current Antivirus and Internet Security FAQ is a better entitlement source than a third-party feature list because names and platform support change.

Those controls can be worth $99.99 a year for a mixed-device household, a laptop used for banking and remote work, or a less technical relative who benefits from one managed security layer. They're harder to justify on one maintained desktop when Windows and the browser already cover the required jobs and the extra seats remain unused.

Internet Security isn't a smaller Ultimate bundle. Seeing Secure VPN or TuneUp in the AVG interface doesn't mean either product is included. A visible tile may be a separate purchase, a trial or an upsell. Open My Subscription and verify the exact entitlement instead of counting icons. AVG Ultimate is a bundle decision, not a stronger lab-tested engine

In the checked store, Ultimate combined Internet Security with AVG Secure VPN, AVG TuneUp and AVG AntiTrack. The identical $59.88 first-year offer made it look like a free upgrade over Internet Security. The renewal changed the calculation: $149.99 was $50 more than Internet Security’s displayed renewal and $90.11 above Ultimate’s introductory year.

Value each extra independently. Would you select AVG Secure VPN if it weren't bundled with the antivirus? Does TuneUp save meaningful time beyond Windows Storage Sense, Task Manager and careful app removal? Does AntiTrack solve a privacy requirement your browser and content blocker don't? Ultimate can still be rational for a household replacing a separate VPN and maintenance subscription. Write the annual cost of the tools it truly replaces next to the $149.99 renewal. If the replacements are worth more and their limitations fit, the bundle reduces total spending. If they would go unused, the same bundle merely converts a first-year promotion into an expensive second year.

Two-year arithmetic exposes the real difference

Using the July 23 snapshot before tax, Internet Security totals $159.87 across its first year and one displayed renewal. Ultimate totals $209.87. The $50 two-year gap is smaller than comparing renewal prices alone because both plans share the first-year promotion, but it still represents a real future bill.

This is an illustration, not a guarantee that AVG will preserve the displayed renewal. Save the order confirmation, renewal disclosure and checkout date. When renewal approaches, compare the current account price with the current product rather than assuming either the old discount or old feature list still applies.

The billing date can arrive before the anniversary

AVG’s cancellation FAQ says one-, two- and three-year subscriptions can have a billing date up to 35 days before the next subscription period starts. “Cancel before expiration” is therefore unsafe advice. The operational deadline is the Next payment date in the AVG Account or the app store that owns the subscription.

A trial follows a different clock. AVG says a paid trial can charge on its final day when a payment method was supplied. Record the trial end when activating it, set a reminder several days earlier and cancel through the correct merchant if you don't want conversion. Uninstalling the application doesn't change that contract.

AVG says it emails before direct renewal, but an inbox rule, old account address or spam filter can hide a reminder. Treat email as a useful second signal, not the only control. Review the account’s next-payment screen, the card or PayPal mandate and any Apple or Google subscriptions before assuming the bill is gone.

Cancellation, refund and uninstall solve different problems

Cancellation stops a future recurring charge and normally leaves paid features available until the current period ends. A refund asks the merchant to reverse an eligible payment. Uninstall removes software from one device. None automatically performs the other two.

AVG’s current refund instructions describe a 30-day money-back guarantee for eligible consumer subscriptions purchased through the AVG website, an offer inside an AVG Windows or Mac app, or Google Play. Apple App Store purchases and third-party resellers use their own policies and request paths. Direct card or PayPal refunds can take up to seven business days after processing; other payment methods can take up to 14.

Save evidence at each step: the order ID, merchant, charge date, cancellation screen, final status and refund case number. If a payment was unauthorized rather than merely unwanted, say that clearly to official support and the payment provider. Don't call phone numbers copied from search snippets or forum usernames; fake “AVG support” pages are common around billing queries.

Find who billed you before looking for the cancel button

A subscription may have been purchased on AVG’s website, inside the desktop app, through Google Play, through Apple, or from a retailer. The email sender, order ID format, card descriptor and subscription list usually reveal the merchant. If the order doesn't appear in one AVG Account, try the email address used at checkout rather than creating duplicate accounts.

For a direct AVG purchase, the current account management guide shows the next payment date and “Unsubscribe” or “Cancel renewal” control. Google and Apple subscriptions must be cancelled in their store account. A reseller can require the original retailer’s portal or support desk. The absence of a button in AVG doesn't prove there's no subscription; it often means another merchant owns it.

Make a short inventory when several AVG products are visible. Record Internet Security, Secure VPN, TuneUp, AntiTrack, Driver Updater and Secure Browser PRO separately. Each can have its own order, trial and renewal. One orange dashboard doesn't imply one bill.

Which AVG plan should you choose?

Choose AVG Free when one Windows PC needs core protection and you're comfortable managing browser security, backups, passwords and updates separately. It has current lab evidence and no antivirus renewal. If the upgrade prompts create confusion, Microsoft Defender is the quieter built-in alternative.

Choose Internet Security when you can name a paid control—remote-access defense, webcam rules, browser-data protection, sensitive-file protection, fake-site defenses or enhanced firewall behavior—and will use multiple seats. Budget from $99.99, not the observed $59.88 promotion.

Choose Ultimate when Secure VPN, TuneUp and AntiTrack replace services you'd otherwise pay for and their limits fit every required platform. Budget from the $149.99 renewal. Don't buy it merely because the first year matches Internet Security.
